I have an Allison Transmission Model 2500MH. How do I find out if it is 5 speed or 6 speed.

Thanks.

Go to allisontransmission.com and then to my "My Allison". Then to" My Transmission Information" and put in your transmisions Serial Number and the scrambled letter code to the right and it will bring up everything that you need to know about your trasmission.

Look on the label above driver side sun visor. Mxx with numbers will probably be a 5 speed. Six speeds had all letters. Examples MTR, MHF, and MTS. Kodiak/Topkick did not get six speed trans until 2007.

Thanks Denny, I did that. That is where I found out it is a 2500MH model. But it doesn't tell me if it is 5 or 6 speed. And I haven't been able to find it anywhere on their website. From the book we got with the Motorhome it looks like it is a 5 speed but everything else says it is a 6 speed. We just would like to know.

What year is your MoHo? If it is a 2007 or newer it is a six speed.

And you insist on keeping us in suspense. :)

I have no idea! I talked to an Allison Transmission Specialist today. He said the tranny was manufactured in June of 06. The Motorhome is an 09 but when you run the VIN, it says 08. The codes on the sticker say it is a 6 speed but the tranny guy said those have been known to be wrong and he thought from the build date, it is probably a 5 speed. He said the only way to tell for sure is for an Allison Tech to hook it up to a computer and the readout will give them numbers that they can then look up. Or, there is a little box somewhere either under the coach, on the frame, under the hood or even under the dash that has some numbers on it. It is the brain for the tranny. Those numbers, if you can find the box, may be able to tell them whether it is a 5 ot 6 speed. So I give up. Anyone else have a good way to tell, I am all ears. I decided that it really doesn't matter cuz I am not giving it back. I will let the techs decide if and when it needs work.
