32SS owners

Yahoo Message Number: 452
Well, went out to the MH today (on the lot next to us) to review the
Kodiak manual. Told my son the NE/SD game was on. Tried to turn on
the TV up front and nothing. After fiddling for a while I pulled a
plug from the outlet above the DVD player, plugged in a fan and found
no juice. Flipped the GFI off and back on. Nothing. Flipped all
the circuit breakers off and on - nothing.

So, I'm open for suggestions. We have relatives coming in a week and
I guess I'll have to run an extension (oh will that look good) from
the side of the galley counter above the door and into the box. Then,
when we get to Jayco in Indiana in April (and I'd better try and book
soon) they can fix this too.

If seems that if it is not one thing it is another.

Is that the only outlet in the coach that's dead? That one is tied in to
the inverter line so I wonder if something there has gone wrong.

Take care,
Greg

I forgot to tell you this when I told you about the 10 quart oil
capacity. This is straight from the computer file I keep on
everything I do to my Jayco:

7/21/2007
"I greased this vehicle. I found 5 fittings on the driver's side
front, and three on the front passenger side. I also found 4
fittings on the drive shafts, and one on each of the rear leveling
jacks."

I also use a hand grease gun and am careful not to over pressure any
of the fittings.

10 quarts is in the Kodiak manual we got with the Greyhawk.

What did you lube the U-joints with as the GM manual says to use a wheel bearing grease.

I've been tempted to buy a power grease gun at Harbor Freight - but other than the MH and our two lawn and garden tractors it wouldn't get much use. Anyone have one like this?

Hmmmm. I wonder if that means the invertor is gone as that is the only outlet that is not working. I guess I should disconnect shore power, flick on the inverter switch and see if it delivers any power. Probably another thing for our list for Jayco to fix in April.

Thanks

Don

I have read tons of articles about "use this grease for this type
joint and this type for this one" .....etc etc... I finally started
using (several years ago) Valvoline Synthetic on everything and have
not had any trouble. If you use an air gun, be careful, on a couple
of the fittings up front you can blow out a seal real quick.

On your outlet problem, I would check the inverter. Check the manual
that came in the portfolio, or go online to their web-site and read
it. I think it has a fuse or breaker or something in it.

The front roof air on my Dutchmen quit working several months ago, and all the fuses that I can find are still good. I wonder if the inverter is connected directly to the air? Anyone else have that problem with their Four Winds Kodiak??

I just checked my manual and the only thing connected to the inverter is the Entertainment center and TV.

Mike, what surprised me was the different spec for the U-joints vs the rest of the chassis. I was about to get a NLGI #2 Category LB or GC-LB and use it for everything - which I'm still tempted to do. I'll probably end up with a manual gun and flex hose - even though I find them messy. Will probably get this one.

I think I'll pick up this grease:

I just turned off shore power, turned on the inverter - still nothing at all. So, on to the Jayco list it goes along with 8 or so other items.

I thought about that as our last two had 2000W inverters and periodically the reset buttons had to be pushed in.

My problem is "where is the darn thing." There is an on switch in the control box at the door - but I haven't been able to find out where the inverter is hiding? Anyone with a Greyhawk know where it is? It is only 400W so it is likely pretty small.

Thanks

I'm going from memory since mine is over in storage, but I think it's in
a storage compartment on the drivers side against the top. About the
second or third compartment back.

Take care,

Another thought, it might be under the bottom drawer in the bedroom.
Sure wish I could remember, but it's in one of those two places.

Take care,

I did pull that bottom drawer right back (haven't taken it out) and looked behind it - pretty dark and I didn't notice anything, so I'll take a flashlight over and have another look.

I'm amazed how ineffective the Jayco manual is. The problem stems from trying to cover off so many different models with one manual. Triple E and Winnie did the same thing. the HR manual was very good and had tons of detail. Given this is the computer age, they should make really detailed materials available on their web site. Winnie did this and I have huge files that show all the plumbing and wiring for my model and they were very extensive. A good move by Winnie given all the problems one finds. :(

Don, it is screwed to the floor under the drawers below the TV area,
which is next to the closet. Your converter, autoswitch and inverter
are all in that general area. Just take the drawers out and you can
get to them, you will need to open the Bedroom slide to get enough
room to work.

Denny, you just haven't noticed my comments in the A Class forum the past few years. Recently I got so PO'd at DriVer and the owners of iRV2 that I won't go back to that forum. I basically pointed out how biased they were to their paying sponsors and they didn't like that at all. DriVer is an evangelist for whatever he happens to own and he can see nothing else with his blinkers on.

Some of my unpopular views:

FMCA is a joke when it comes to member protection and advocacy. It is too worried about advertising revenue to do a proper job on road tests. It fudges weight problems regularly.

Spitzer should have taken on the RV biz for fraud. Dealers put MSRP stickers on MHs that are not correct. Saying they are something when they aren't is misrepresentation.

Manufacturers should be required post the four corner weights for the vehicle with full fuel and no water and full fuel and a full tank of water. Also, every dealer should be required to carry a small booklet that explains the weight issues properly. This info pack would also explain licensing by state and province, towing rules (where toad/trailer brakes are needed), etc.

Warranty service should be available in a reasonable time frame. My Winnie/HR/Jayco dealer requires 8 weeks notice for an appointment and then your MH is with them for one to 3 months. That is nonsense.

And I can go on and on.

Yes, I got a flashlight and took a look and there it was. Installed in just about the dumbest fashion one can imagine. You cannot see the front control panel even if you take off the wood panel in front of it. I can see that a green light is on (but there are four lights on the panel) but the reset button and the on/off switch do not seem to be the type shown in the inverter manual. Unplugged it, plugged it in, pushed the reset, etc but nothing happened. Ran an extension to the TV and DVD and they work OK.

Now for my next complaint. Some idiot specified a DVD player that does not have an ON/OFF buttom on the remote (at least ours doesn't have one and I can't see one on the remote for the Westinghouse TV). Does yours have one? If there isn't one that means getting on the ladder (which Jayco did not supply) to get on the bunk to push the ON/OFF switch whenever we want to use it.

These guys should be forced to use every new product for a month before they finalize the design, components, etc.
