Greyhawk 33DS overheating storage compartment March 30, 2008, 12:59:23 pm Yahoo Message Number: 868I am the one who got this whole overheating, melting thing started. After returning from a trip last fall I was preparing to take the rigto the dealer for some minor warranty work. When I took my toolbox outof the right front storage bay...I discovered that a large portion ofthe back wall of the bay had melted almost all the way through. Icrawled underneath to see what might have caused this...The exhaust andmuffler were at least 10" from the side of the compartment and I alsonoted that both hanger straps on the exhaust pipe were broken. To make a long story short, the dealer had my rig for almost 5 weekswaiting for Jayco to tell them what to do. The service dept. told methat Jayco told them that the melting was caused because the exhaustsystem was the same as the diesel models and that the gas exhaust ranhotter..? ? ? ? ? Anyway...they plastic welded another piece of thefiberglass into the storage bay and added a larger heat shield. The storage bay now gets warm but not hot like before. I called mydealer and they stated that they even went further than the Jayco TSBadvised....Hope so..................... Quote Selected

Re: Greyhawk 33DS overheating storage compartment Reply #2 – March 30, 2008, 01:08:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 871Exfuzz, Do you have the 2007i compliant diesel engine? If it is a 2008 duramax diesel, it would be. If so, your exhaust should have an "exhaust tip cooler" installed, and the system does run hotter. I am not aware of any gas models that use a regeneration system like the duramax emission complaint. If yours melted while 10" away from the bin, I have found Four winds 2008 duramax diesels where the exhaust is only 3-4 inches from the plastic bin that should melt nicely.Denny Quote Selected
Re: Greyhawk 33DS overheating storage compartment Reply #3 – March 30, 2008, 01:12:15 pm Yahoo Message Number: 873There was no diesel in the Greyhawk during its limited life.My hope is that when the 4.5 Duramax appears they put one in a 28 ft Greyhawk. 300 hp and torque of 500+ would be about right. And, yes, the pics came thru great.Denny Quote Selected
