First post and 07 Greyhawk 32SS info

Yahoo Message Number: 284
This is my first post in this group, but I check this site daily. I
bought a new 2007 Jayco Greyhawk 32SS in late April of this year. My
Greyhawk chassis was made in October of 2006 and the MH itself was
made in December of 2006. It is a Kodiak chassis with the GM 8.1 gas
engine and the 6 speed Allison.

I started reading different forums and groups several months before
purchasing this MH. My wife and I knew we wanted a Class "C" and
wanted to stay in the $75-80,000 range. We finally decided on the
Jayco because we had several dealers within 150 miles and it appeared
the Jayco was a good combination of quality and value. We decided to
buy a "new" unit and I quickly decided not to go the diesel route. I
could not justify the price difference over gas based on the number
of miles we would put on the MH. The weight, useable weight, and
towing numbers looked good for the 32SS also.

We have only made two short weekend trips but we are well pleased at
this point. As with any "vehicle" there are some things that I have
problems with:

The storage doors need a strut to hold them open and the locks are
cheap.

The dash radio is cheap and doesn't want to play CD's. It gives an
error code that is about "temp too high".

The TV up front could be mounted better. The DVD and the "Aux/Sat"
plugs are hard to get access to. We like the overhead bunk though.

The levelers "dump" when you turn the key to "on". I fixed this
myself.

Needs some way for a satellite cable to enter the rear storage
compartment without leaving the door open? Also, they left the 12
VDC light out of this compartment but said they would let the dealer
fix this as a warranty item. (Maybe later)

The end of the sewer connection is too close to the bottom of the
side of the MH.

The rear "vertical trim molding" that seals the rear wall and the
passenger side wall is "pulling back" on the "side wall side" for
about 2 feet "up" from the bottom. I will definitely make them fix
this in the near future. I just hope it is not a major deal to fix.

The rear camera cable has a short on the end near the monitor. I
have "fixed" it twice but it keeps working loose. I will let them
replace or fix this the next time I take it to the Dealer.

The cheap window curtains are a royal pain to keep straight. I
probably missed a couple of other "little" things, but nothing
major. My exhaust hangers appear to be OK. The last two are welded
but have a thick piece of heavy rubber like material in the middle
that is flexible.

I have added a second house battery, and a Trick L Start charger, a
Sirius portable radio and antenna, Garmin Nuvi 660 Nav unit. I have
insulated all the exposed water pipes with the round foam strips and
put the foam strips everywhere the pipes touch anything inside and
outside. I bought a Watts high flow regulator with gauge for the
water supply along with a "jumbo" size water filter that goes
outside. I bought a 50 amp model "Surge Guard" for electrical
protection.

I had the MH weighed recently at a local truck stop. The scales will
only give me axle weights and total weight. I will eventually find
somewhere to do all 4 corners. The weight figures were as follows:

Front Axle      5,320 Lbs.
Rear Axle      11,580 Lbs.
Total Weight      16,900 Lbs.

These figures were with a full tank (80 Gal) of fuel, a full fresh
water tank (59 Gal), full Propane tank (16 Gal), "most" of our travel
equipment but no food, drinks etc, and me in the drivers seat. I
weigh 195 Lbs. As I see it, this leaves about 2,600 pounds to play
with.

I recently bought a Blue Ox tow bar and a US Gear brake system. I
have not had time to install them. I might end up having the work
done on the tow bracket for the Honda CRV we will pull when needed.

I did not intend for this to be this long. I would really like to
know if there is anyway to view all the pictures that people post in
this group. It is really aggravating to see the little properties
box, but no picture. Can this group "host" these pictures some how ?

Good post, glad you took the time to do it in detail. I'm not sure what you mean about the photos since they all appear ok when I get them.

I was pleased to see your scale results. Given yours and Rich's there is no question that we've got great CCC.

I'm curious how you fixed the problem of the leveling jacks going up when you turn on the ignition. That drives me nuts as well. Can you outline in detail what you did?

We've never tried a CD in the radio as all of our music (over 6600 songs) is on our iPod. We added an XM radio (Sirius was built in to ours) since our Tahoe is on XM.

The TV layout up front is a PITA. Our 32SS is parked next to our park model in FLA now. Our son uses it and DW and I are in the PM - although I go over there occasionally and he comes here to sleep periodically. I ran a line for the cable TV to the 32SS and fed it up through a hole I drilled (the drill went through very quickly) through the bottom of the compartment. Jayco had told me to have a hatch put in for the phone/TV and one for the power on the curb side (so I could connect the Battery Minder). I found the battery runs down in a month or so - to around 12V from 12.7. I was going to get a cut-off switch, In the interim I just removed the positive from post under the hood and that has done the job for the time being. I'm going to check the chassis battery with the multimeter every week. I wish I'd added another coach battery when we got ours. I fear it is too late now as they really should be identical and the one that came with the MH has been in use for 5 months now.

Back to the TV. I wanted to connect a digital box for the cable tv to the front TV. What a PITA. Only two outlets in available - one for the DVD and the other for the TV. It was going to be a difficult job so I ended up putting the digital box on the unit in the bedroom. Works fine but I would prefer to have it up front for my son.

I'm planning to take ours to Jayco on the way home from FLA and have them fix these items plus a few others:

Back bumper has to be aligned as one side is an inch farther out than the other and one side is and inch higher than the other.
The "glazed maple" trim has one length (top of the galley slide) that was not glazed.
Nails coming through in the toilet have to be clipped and a strip of wallpaper put over the holes.
Some fo the "arborite" is coming off next to the bed.
The back cap has separated a bit on the road side. The caulking looks ugly so we want the factory to fix it. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM YOU HAVE. I'll send you some photos of mine so you can compare.
I fixed the exhaust hanger myself (as you probably know) and it is very secure after our 1400 miles trip to FLA. That rubber flex stuff was on our original bracket as well so it may just be a matter of time before yours breaks.

We just found a new problem a couple of days after arriving in FLA. We found the compartment under the fridge soaken wet. Since I washed the MH the day before and hosed it down well we don't know if water got in that way or if there is a leak from the fridge, the hot water tank, a water line OR the shower drain. The water was dripping down through the wire hole on the left side of the compartment. We turned off the water and turned down the fridge and it has dried up nicely. I now going to turn the hot water tank on again. Then I'm have my son take a shower and keep my fingers crossed. If it is the drain it will be darn difficult to fix (I think). Has anyone else had a problem like this? I sure hope it was water from the wash.

Gotta head for bed. DW and I have the job of managing the Tuesday morning Koffee Klatsch at our park and I have to turn on several huge coffee makers at 6 AM, meet the pastry delivery man who has 10 dozen donuts for us, fill 30 coffee jugs with hot water which will be dumped out when they are filled with coffee, and also lay out 8 dozen muffins, bagals and English muffins we get at Sams along with cream cheese etc. I hate this night since leaving 200 to 300 people without coffee (if I sleep in) wouldn't go over well. I told the park that I had visions of being Benny Hill - at the end of his show have the cast would be chasing him.

Thanks again for your post.

Don

ps. Not sure when this message will go now. We have cable TV, phone and internet from Brighthouse Cable. The phone/internet modem has a problem and they will be here for the 2nd time on Wednesday to try and fix it. It simply cuts out from time to time and will stay out for 10 minutes or 10 hours - or anything in between. So, if this doesn't go in the next few minutes it will have to be tomorrow morning. .........................It was still out but I've turned on all the coffee makers now and have connected to our WiFi at the clubhouse. So off it goes at 6:10 AM

I do not have a problems loading pictures at home. But some time when on a slow connection the download will time out giving the icon instead of thumbnail. Try refreshing the page when this happens. Should get some of the thumbnails before page times out.

Denny, I agree it is a safety issue, but the implementation is awful. For example, I level, put out the slides and I'm all set up. Oh oh, forgot to record the mileage from the ODO. All I want to do is turn the ignition on, I don't want to start it - but up come the jacks. But but but, I've got the slides out and they say put them in before the jacks are raised.

Another time I was leveled, slides out, etc. Realized the cab window was down. Oh oh, turn on the ignition ot raise it and up come the jacks.

All they had to do was program it so that the jacks would not come up as long as the emergency brake is on and the transmission is in Park.

Exactly my thoughts. It was aggravating as he..! You still have the
other safety features, or at least on mine it does.

Mike,

Finally, retracting the levelers when the ignition is on prevents
the jacks from damage if you move the coach. Like leaving the TV
antenna up, we can all forget the jacks are down. You may want to devise
an alternate system to remind you the levelers are down.
