Windshield woes May 08, 2008, 10:56:27 am Yahoo Message Number: 1047Okay to keep my irritation in line with my stress level I decided Ineeded to call my insurance company and report the broken windshield soit could be replaced before our trip out west in two weeks. I had beenhit with a stone about one inch below the top of the windshield right infront of the drivers seat. Since it was up in that black area of theglass I didn't see anything from the inside, but over the next few hoursa crack came down the glass about ten inches and then took a right turnfor another 12 or 14 inches.Since USAA doesn't write RV policies anymore they put me thru toProgressive when I bought the unit and they wrote the policy. I calledthem and was told "no problem, we've got Duncan Systems who handles allthe motorhome glass" The kid was helpful and took the info and put me onhold while he contacted them. I had told him the chassis was a ChevyKodiak 5500 series, etc. He came back and asked if it had an overhangand of course I said yes. He said "so it's a class C" and I said "yes, sort of at least by definition or a Super C by others". He said "noproblem, since it's on a van chassis one of our regular glass guys cando it".A call from him about ten minutes later was a bit more iffy on that. Hesaid they all refused because it was on a commercial truck chassis andthey don't do them with motorhomes mounted. I would have to go to aChevy dealer. I went on to 'splain my previous problems with trying toget any Chevy dealer in the area to do anything on it and he said he'dget back to me.He called with the name of a glass dealer in my area who said he'd doit, but it would be extra labor. The kid from Progressive has approvedthe extra labor and told me my $100 deductible would be all I'd pay andthe work was authorized. I called the glass company and talked to theowner who had spoken with the insurance company. He said he didn't knowwhy the others wouldn't do such a thing, but he'd like to come by andtake a look. I met him yesterday and he's an RV guy so he was veryinterested in the coach. Anyway the bottom line is he said it wasn't anydifferent than doing any other 5500 truck because the overcab with thebed didn't affect anything in the windshield area. The only thing isthey need two guys because of the height and size. Maybe other companiesdon't want to tie up two guys. He's coming over Monday morning to do the job and said I might want tomeet him there and watch since I might find it interesting. Seemed likea really nice young guy and we talked about RV's for quite a while. Ihope it goes well :-)Take care, Greg Quote Selected

RV'ing is fun...After owning this I keep trying that :-)I just got a call from the glass company who is doing the job Monday andhe said Progressive told him they wouldn't authorize the extra labor tohave two installers there. This is after the agent I talked to the otherday said it wouldn't be a problem. He's not calling the agent directlywho took the origninal claim and checking on that. He said it would getdone and we'd fight it out with Progressive if need be, but he had tohave two guys there to do it.I can certainly see that it would be a two man job to handle that bigglass over the front of that big truck so hopefully it's not going to bean issue when he talks to the agent.RV'ing is fun... Re: Windshield woes Reply #4 – May 09, 2008, 08:28:54 am Yahoo Message Number: 1056OK, I just emptied my coach so Four Winds can have it picked up today and driven to the factory. They will have the coach probably several weeks while they repair the problems it has (and had when it left the factory!)Since I no longer will have access to "RVing" for several weeks/months, during the peak time when we would be using it, but will still have the payments/insurance/added mileage when they finish with it, all I can say is, RVing AIN"T FUN!!!Denny Quote Selected
