Raleigh, NC RV show

The boss and I went to the RV show here in Raleigh over the weekend and
I have to say I was pretty disappointed. Not only were there a lot fewer
dealers than ever before, but not a lot of variety or anything new to
speak of. Camping World made up most of the dealerships. Some of the
ones who have always been there in the past didn't show at all. Weather
was spectacular so no excuses there.

The most impressive thing I saw was the new Vantage travel trailer from
Keystone:

Looked to be very nicely done and had a lot of storage and room inside.
Reminded me of the old Avions years ago, but this is pretty light.
Easily towed with a 150, but the thing is 35'10" long! Holy smokes
that's a lot of trailer when it's not a fifth wheel :-)

The smaller show in January they have in the downtown arena was actually
better than this one at the fairgrounds which is the "big show" every
year. Maybe the gas scare has people and dealers leery or something.

They also had a lot of used units which is something I've never seen
there before. We came away pretty disappointed in the whole show. Too
bad since we always look forward to it every year. Even the crowds were
way down and we went on Saturday which we usually avoid because of
crowds. Not a problem this year.

Take care,
Greg

Greg, 35' 10" a lot of trailer?

As Crocodile Dundee said - that is not a knife, this is a knife. Well, this is big. My boss wanted it of course. :)

Sure don't tow this with a 150 very easily.

As they said in the movie, it's a "Long, Long Trailer" and if you're a
Lucy & Desi fan and never seen it then you're really missing something.
Kathy and I say it's a documentary of our first trip out west when we
dragged the trailer :-)

I reminded her that this trailer at the show was 2 inches shorter than
than the 36 New Moon Desi towed in the movie. (they called it a 40
footer, but in reality it was the 36) There's your trivia for the day.

If SWMBO isn't happy.......:-)

Not for far, that's for sure :-) It's a nice looking outfit! Have you
worked the bugs out and been happy? I'll bet your son thought he died
and went to heaven with all of that room!

Take care,
Greg

Surprisingly few bugs at this point. I thought we had a problem with the galley ceiling fan. Since this is used as a destination trailer and I wasn't about to tow it to Lazydays, they would charge $75 mobile service call and do the work under warranty. So I started taking the fan apart and got down to the end and it still made an irritating grinding noise. My feeling was that I could a better quality fan in myself for less than $75. I then spun the motor by hand, turned on the power again and noise gone. Put it back together piece by piece testing it after every piece was added - no noise. Still running fine.

When it was delivered the push/pull rod on the vertical blinds at the sliding patio door was broken off from the track. We reported that to LD, they ordered a complete new blind. We took in the old and picked up the new. They sent us back with the old as well as the new, so all I did was replace the track and the rest is now stored just in case we have to replace anything else.

So far no other problems, which surprises me given that it is not exactly an upscale model. My son does love his own room at the back and visitors use the master bedroom. There is a 3 pc bath front and back - which means a PITA with the tanks - but I have them rigged properly now I think. I ran the sewer line from each end into a Y but then found when draining one end the sewerage flow would go to the Y and a lot would continue up the other arm to the tank at the other end. So, I put a swivel value on each of the feeder ends of the Y and it works fine.

Forest River documentation is the worst I've seen or can imagine. You get a generic manual that tells you absolutely nothing about your specific model. I initially had trouble connecting cable tv to work in all three locations but that has been sorted out now. They do some dumb things at FR, like all the others. One switch operates all three slides in succession. They open in order from front to back and we'll find out how they close in a couple of weeks. Toilet paper holders - one came in box - but no place to put them - so we got the brass stands. Having said all that for the price it seems to be pretty good value. FR is now No. 2 to Thor overall and No. 1 in motorized. This report was in RVBiz today.
