Anyone know much about black tank depths. Our 32SS has a 51 gallon
black tank. That means it is 6.818 cu ft. When I think about that
volume and area it hits me that a tank that is 2.5 ft wide and 4 ft
long will only be 8 inches deep. I flushed out the black and emptied
the grey today. Turned off the water supply and flushed to get a bit
of water out of the line and then looked down with with a
flashlight. Sure looked shallow to me - 8 inches or so. When I
emptied and then used the black tank flush, a couple of times the
water flowing out slowed to a trickle - then suddenly gushed out with
lots of brown "stuff". This happened again and again. I don't recall
the black tanks being so shallow in our previous MHs. At least both
tank indicators said EMPTY when I got finished.

Now, I think we have to flush and flush and flush the tank every time
to get it cleared out. We also fill the bowl and flush a half dozen
times and surprisingly this flushes out more brown even after we've
been black flushing for 15 minutes.

We have DW's sister and her husband visiting and they are in the Jayco
for 3 weeks. I'm now convinced I've got to go out and run a lot of
water into the tank (along with the green stuff) to make sure things
float off the bat.

Frankly, I'd think a tank with half the area and double the depth
would be better. Any views?

Crappy subject for Super Bowl Sunday but this white bowl is bothering
me. :)

Don,

Unfortunately, I am an "expert" on crap, as my previous post indicates...actually, I did a post on the black tank subject in my blog a couple days ago... mine is less than 8" deep (54 gallon tank). There is a small "holding area" where the connector leaves the tank for the sewer hose, but because I have an 18" run to get to the tank, the brown "stuff" piles up at the bottom and plugs the "run" every few days...and yes, on the "A's" the tank is much deeper.

Our 2004 GS has 36 gallon black and gray tanks. Tanks are 14" wide
across the whole width of MH. On the passenger side tanks are thinest.
Almost flush with top of basements door. On drivers side tanks come
within 6" of basement floor. Lot of slant to make stuff flow to the
dump valves. In later versions of our MH they increased the holding
tank size to 50+ gallons. They did it by dropping the passenger side
of tanks to be almost level across the MH. I would bet that owners of
these MH's have problems filling the black tank and getting it
completely empty. It amazes me what manufactures will do just to put
bigger numbers on a brochure.
