Thor Super C - I am back in Texas

I am "back!" We (Jillian and I) left Baytownlina and celebrated a relative's birthday with them and that part of the family. We then went to Wright Brothers memorial in Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. From there we went South to Cape Hatteras for a few days, were we drove our dingy Jeep on the beach and waded in the Atlantic Ocean. We then departed North again, past Virginia Beach and across the Chesapeake Bay, which has 3 bridges and two tunnels, and a gift shop with restaurant on the bridge, where we stopped for tourist stuff and had a snack. Then North to the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and into Atlantic City, NJ, where we walked the famous board walk and had dinner on the beach. Headed North again, we went through New York City and across the Washington toll bridge where I paid $84.20 toll for the motor-home with Jeep in tow. Ouch! From there we went to Connecticut were we stayed in one of the prettiest RV parks ever, named Odetah. From there we went to Maine and then cut back to the base of Mt Washington, where we took the time to drive to the top of the 6,000 ft mountain, the tallest peak on the East coast. After a few days there, we headed to Montreal, Canada, only to discover that the GPS does not have maps for Canada! Never the less, we found Julie waiting at the front door of her hotel. We then, all 3, headed to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. WOW, we got to see it at night and during the day and it is amazing. We then headed back to the US, and stopped to visit a friend in Detroit. From there we headed to Branson, MO, for several days and really enjoyed the down time, although Julie kept us busy with "shows" and train rides through the local mountains. We departed Branson and spent our last night in Huntsville State Park, just North of Houston. We left early and are finally home after 3 weeks, 4,900 miles, 25 states, 2 Canadian Providences, "many" nice RV parks and tourist traps. Amen...

The coach got anywhere from 8.1 mpg to 10.3 and I have no idea why the drastic difference. The Jeep towed like it was not even there and the coach had all the power to pull that I could ever want. My check engine light stayed on the entire trip and the coach will go to the shop to fix it - AGAIN - since this is the 4th time for the F550 ox/EGT sensors to have problems. I have had to replace the drawer slide on the pantry since it finally reached the point that I could no longer stand the broken POS. The back shade bracket also failed and finally just fell down due to the rough roads. The shade bracket is a Thor ONLY item but has been ordered. Demondtrond RV in Houston wanted a $20 fee for drop ship but Motorhome Specialist, in Texas and near Dallas, had the part cheaper and did not charge the fee so I ordered from them and will fix it myself when I have the part.
SIDE NOTE ONE - I disconnected the safety part that would not allow me to open the slide while the engine was running. I like the extra battery power, from the engine, and I also like a bit of engine A/c from the cab, which sometimes is all the little bit of A/c needed. I can also put out the awning while engine is running since sometimes this will keep the rain off me upon returning to the coach from a short stop. I don't always put the awning all the way out, nut put part way, to keep it from getting damaged, depending on location and wind speeds.
SIDE NOTE TWO.... If anyone is looking for a Thor Super C, there are 2, 2014's listed on RVTrader, in Texas, for $84-89K which is a deal on these vehicles both with low mileage. If I did not have mine, I would buy the one with 8K miles, currently listed on RVTrader.
SIDE NOTE THREE... The solar panels performed well but really were not used much since we were either under engine power, plugged into shore power, or under gen power due to the need for A/c.
SIDE NOTE FOUR... HIGHLY recommended that you keep with you the adapter for 50A to a 30A box, since several RV parks ONLY had 30 amps and I was glad I had the connection to adapt.
Happy Trails - Jerry, back in Baytown.

It was a GREAT trip that I would like to do again. It was 52 degrees one morning near Mt Washington while it was 100+ in Texas. I depart for Black Rock City on Aug 20th , 3 hrs North of Reno, for some dry lake bed camping, off grid of course. I should put est 12K miles on my coach this year and currenlty have 19,5K miles.. Two - just like mine are currently for sale on RVtrader and priced decent. If I did not have mine, I would buy one of these, most likely the one with 8K miles. I like the Diesel and the torque of the Diesel, and the size of tanks seems just fine. I also like the towing power. Jerry - currently in Baytown, Texas

Excellent read on your adventure. I have hopes of doing a similar trip in the next two years.

Thanks
