Dummy needs advice

Today, while working on my Jayco Seneca 34SS Duramax 6.6, I
noticed a container of Diesel Kleen additive, or so I thought.
The container had a little less than a quart in it. I grabbed
it and dumped it into the fuel tank. As I brought the
container down, I noticed that instead of additive it was
Zerex Dex-Cool. So, I had just dumped almost a quart of
antifreeze into my fuel.

I immediately got some new Diesel Kleen additive and dumped
a quart into the tank. The truck starts and seems to run
just fine except that the "Water in fuel warning light" comes
on and stays solid. The instructions state to drain the
fuel filter (which was installed new yesterday). Following
the instructions, nothing would come out of the fuel filter.

What damage have I done and what do I need to do to correct it?
BTW, the fuel tank has about 50-60gal of fuel in it. Tank size
is 80 gal.

This initially sounds terrifying. Then thinking about it I recall that antifreeze is added to diesel fuel to get the water out and keep it from freezing in winter.

Might be useful to find out the chemical properties of such diesel antifreeze and how they compare to Dex Cool.

Might not cause any problems.

I`d agree with Don, there has to be another reason your water in fuel light is coming on. Antifreeze is heavier than water so it will be on the very bottom of your tank somewhere the pickup tube would not be able to get.A Seneca has an eighty gallon tank so one quart would not even cover the bottom.I`m not sure but there should be a water drain on your fuel tank that will allow you to get the antifreeze out. As for the water in fuel light I don`t know what to suggest, if you`ve put a quart of Fuel Kleen in already that should take care of it. You may want to carry a couple spare fuel filters for a while though. Good Luck

I`d agree with Don,

Thanks for the responses. I don't know if there is a
water drain on the tank or not, but will check today. I
will also replace the fuel filter again and keep at least
one spare with me. I am still puzzled that nothing comes
out of the fuel filter when I attempt to drain it.
According to my book, the water in fuel sensor is connected
to the fuel filter and draining it should shut off the light.

The water sensor is right there on the bottom of the fuel filter. It's a little Styrofoam float with a magnet in it, and it electrically connects via those wires there. I suggest removing the filter (drain it first), and check to see that the float is there and working properly and the plug from it is properly connected. You should be able to get the light to turn off by moving the float down.

There is a button on top of the filter assembly that you have to pump to get the water/fuel to come out.

The info I have says that is used to prime the fuel filter.

I replaced the fuel filter today and a lot of red stuff came out
of the old filter when it was removed. Appears the Dex-Cool went
straight to the filter. After the new filter was installed and
primed, everything appears to be normal. The warning light is out
and the truck runs with no apparent problems.
