Dummy needs advice August 15, 2009, 11:09:08 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2834Today, while working on my Jayco Seneca 34SS Duramax 6.6, Inoticed a container of Diesel Kleen additive, or so I thought. The container had a little less than a quart in it. I grabbedit and dumped it into the fuel tank. As I brought thecontainer down, I noticed that instead of additive it wasZerex Dex-Cool. So, I had just dumped almost a quart ofantifreeze into my fuel.I immediately got some new Diesel Kleen additive and dumpeda quart into the tank. The truck starts and seems to runjust fine except that the "Water in fuel warning light" comeson and stays solid. The instructions state to drain thefuel filter (which was installed new yesterday). Followingthe instructions, nothing would come out of the fuel filter. What damage have I done and what do I need to do to correct it?BTW, the fuel tank has about 50-60gal of fuel in it. Tank sizeis 80 gal.Bob Quote Selected

Then thinking about it I recall that antifreeze is added to diesel fuel to get the water out and keep it from freezing in winter.Might be useful to find out the chemical properties of such diesel antifreeze and how they compare to Dex Cool.Might not cause any problems.DonOn 15-Aug-09, at 11:08 PM, Bob Barbee wrote: Quote Selected
Re: Dummy needs advice Reply #2 – August 16, 2009, 01:06:14 am Yahoo Message Number: 2836I`d agree with Don, there has to be another reason your water in fuel light is coming on. Antifreeze is heavier than water so it will be on the very bottom of your tank somewhere the pickup tube would not be able to get.A Seneca has an eighty gallon tank so one quart would not even cover the bottom.I`m not sure but there should be a water drain on your fuel tank that will allow you to get the antifreeze out. As for the water in fuel light I don`t know what to suggest, if you`ve put a quart of Fuel Kleen in already that should take care of it. You may want to carry a couple spare fuel filters for a while though. Good Luck Quote Selected

I don't know if there is awater drain on the tank or not, but will check today. Iwill also replace the fuel filter again and keep at leastone spare with me. I am still puzzled that nothing comesout of the fuel filter when I attempt to drain it.According to my book, the water in fuel sensor is connectedto the fuel filter and draining it should shut off the light.Bob Quote Selected
Re: Dummy needs advice Reply #5 – August 16, 2009, 12:51:34 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2839The water sensor is right there on the bottom of the fuel filter. It's a little Styrofoam float with a magnet in it, and it electrically connects via those wires there. I suggest removing the filter (drain it first), and check to see that the float is there and working properly and the plug from it is properly connected. You should be able to get the light to turn off by moving the float down.JeffFrom: KodiakChassisClassC@yahoogroups.com [mailto:KodiakChassisClassC@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Bob BarbeeSent: Sunday, August 16, 2009 12:20 PMTo: KodiakChassisClassC@yahoogroups.comSubject: [KodiakChassisClassC] Re: Dummy needs advice--- In , Brad McKenna wrote:QuoteI`d agree with Don, Thanks for the responses. Appears the Dex-Cool wentstraight to the filter. After the new filter was installed andprimed, everything appears to be normal. The warning light is outand the truck runs with no apparent problems.Bob Quote Selected
