I spent the morning over at the storage place getting some jobs done
that I've been waiting to do. I did these photos in order, but I see
that now they're arranged numerically so the before and afters are a bit
out of order.
The first order of business was mounting the eye bolts for the
Protect-a-Tow. They include all the hardware, but as I started drilling
the holes I just couldn't bring myself not to use stainless steel
hardware.....call me anal. Off to the hardware store and $13 later I had
all the stainless hardware I needed. The biggest problem with the
installation is not being able to get your fingers or hands in between
the back of the motorhome and the inside of the bumper. This means using
all sorts of remote holders and such. Naturally magnets don't work on SS
so that was out. It was an exercise in patience only because the effort
of using things to reach inside the bumper....drop something....fish it
out....start over...repeat.
The motorhome is ready so now it's only a matter of going over to the
dealership that is working on my car and mounting the two that go into
the fairing under the front bumper. I have a loaner just like it and it
should be easy....except the loaner doesn't have fog lights and mine
does which looks like it will make the installation difficult as they
will be in the way. The fabric you see on the back of the motorhome is
loose because it's not attached to the car, once that's attached the
bungees will tighten it up.
Next was the matter of multiple wires and plugs that just dangled under
the frame of the coach. It was driving me nuts so I crawled under there
to tie them up.
The water lines for the low point drains in the kitchen are what you see
lying on the frame around the propane tank. They just laid there
bouncing on the frame and lower than the drain end of the line so they
didn't really drain completely. This is just plain shoddy work on
Jayco's part, sorta like those open holes in the floor. Anyway, a bit of
insulation around the corners and a wire tie took them up to a frame
member and more in line.
The only other job on today's list was to lower the arms of the awning
so it wasn't straight out when extended. That was an easy job and is now
much more effective.
