Just figured I'd introduce myself since I joined the group. Trying to finalize the purchase of a 2009 Jayco Seneca HD 36MS with the 5500 Kodiak chassis. Have been pulling a 38 foot fifth-wheel toy hauler for years with my 2005 Chevy Duramax but we wanted to move up to a Super C. Hope to learn some things.

Welcome aboard, with a name like that you should fit right in :-) My
Jayco is a gasser, but there are plenty of folks here with the diesel
and no doubt that exact model.

Funny that you're moving to the Super C and my wife and I are
contemplating going back to towing and getting a fifth wheel. Of course
we've been contemplating that or a Class A for a couple of years and yet
here I am happily using the Super C still :-)

Take care,
Greg

Greg it sounds like you have a case of the grass is always greener.
I've only had a handful of incidents where I've missed my old travel trailer and they've involved a pedal bike for finding a fishing license...or bloody mary ingredients.

Gee, after 35 years of this I thought that was the norm :-)

Last year we spent 5 months in the Greyhawk and it actually got better
as time went on because we became better at controlling the clutter that
instantly appears in such tight quarters. The reason of considering
going to a 5th or "A" is to get a couple of things we miss..mostly -
more living space. The list of things we would like to have include:
1. king bed...I'm 76 inches long and our queen bed is 75.
2. More kitchen/living space
3. Washer/dryer combo or stackable

None of these are things that make a HUGE difference, but as we spend
more and more time in it, we'd like to have. A long queen would be fine
with me....just tired of hanging off the ends. The washer/dryer would be
nice after a couple of less than acceptable laundromat experiences last
year. The extra room would be nice so when the weather is bad and we
have the grandkids over, there is more room for everyone. The 32SS only
has one sofa for sitting.

I do not miss towing a trailer one little bit. I don't miss setting the
anti-sway bars, etc or leveling. If I go back to towing it will be with
a 5th wheel and include a 6-way leveling system which are more and more
available now. I don't mind towing down the road, I just don't like
setting them up.

The downside is we have a toad and the Greyhawk payment is minimal. To
go back to towing involves spending a bunch of money for a truck and
then buying the 5th too. If we go with a class A we already have the
toad and equipment to drag it.

There is no ideal solution....just the never-ending quest :-)

Take care,
Greg

Hi Ted,

Happy to hear about your coming purchase of a Seneca. This is without question the best group for Kodiak chassis motorhome discussion. I joined a year and a half ago after picking up a 2007 Seneca ZX toyhauler. You will read lots of great tips from this nice group of people. Lots of good info in the files section as well.

Often, when you get to the other field, you find that not only is the grass not greener, there is no grass.
