Battery thoughts? February 13, 2012, 03:02:58 pm Yahoo Message Number: 8482Okay, looking for some opinions here. Since the day I bought my 2007Jayco Greyhawk 32SS new, it's had one deep cycle 12v battery. It hasbeen replaced once and last year a service guy told me he couldn'tbelieve I was only running one battery.Well, we don't boondock so it's seldom ever being used anyway, but thesecond one has just died so it's time to rethink the original setup. Thetwo obvious choices are:Go with two 12v batteries in parallelGo with two 6v batteries in seriesOver the years the favored setup seems to be the golf cart batteries inseries, but at $145 each, that's pretty stout. Of course the decent 12vbatteries are ticking $100 so they're not terribly far apart. It's still$100 more for the 6v by the time you're done.My thought was to turn it into a 40' diesel pusher, but reality had toset in sometime :-)What are most of you running for the coach side of your rig?Take care, Greg Quote Selected

Re: Battery thoughts? Reply #2 – February 13, 2012, 04:46:58 pm Yahoo Message Number: 8485Greg, we had no problem with ours and our use was similar to yours - no boondocking. The danger with 2 x 6 is that if one 6 goes you can't use the other one. In our second DP we had 4 x 6 and had one gone we could have disconnected its mate and gone with 2 x 6 until we got a replacement. If I'd added a battery to my 32SS it would have been another 12V for that reason.Don Quote Selected

I think all those years in the Army took thatdesire to be miserable away :-)QuoteThe danger with 2 x 6 is that if one 6 goes you can't use the other one.Well you know, that's a darned good point! I hadn't thought of that.QuoteI'd added a battery to my 32SS it would have been another 12V for thatreason. You may have made up my mind....along with the $700 bill for new toadtires today. I haven't seen the photo posted here yet. (Dave, Dave, do you copy. )It answers the question as to why he is towing a Sierra now rather than the Canyon. Needed it to haul the new wheels. He is now practicing to join this group. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qrpq5A-KAoADon Quote Selected

Re: Battery thoughts? Reply #7 – February 14, 2012, 05:49:35 pm Yahoo Message Number: 8496last year I swapped out to two 6 volt golf cart batteries. It helped a great deal but I still think my 'dumb' voltage LED turns to yellow pretty fast?It seems to me I posted exacting detals about the swap out and pics? Also look carefully and where the connections take place. Quote Selected

It's the first one I've hadwhere the only thing that seems to be accurate is the fresh water level. The grey reads empty all the time and the black is erratic.QuoteIt seems to me I posted exacting detals about the swap out and pics? Also look carefully and where the connections take place.I searched and found the photos, but didn't see the thread discussingit. Connections aren't an issue and the tray is certainly big enough toconfigure any way one wants.Take care, Greg Quote Selected
