Don,

great idea about this poll.

Now, it seems like, from the results so far, most people did not have a problem but would like to by the reiforcement brackets.
How do we do that? Do we have part numbers available, would they sell even though we had no problem?
thanks
Mo

Mo, we will see where this goes and then funnel the results back to some folks who may be able to to have the brackets available for sale - if we are lucky.

Greg Gimlick may be able to provide a better answer. Greg???

I'll be anxious to see the end result of this poll. Most of our units are
pretty new, but mine broke just inside of two years. I do have a factory
reinforcement bracket made by Norcold installed on my new door. It took 5
minutes for me to install. These have no part number yet and are not
available for sale or distribution. Hopefully these will be made available
soon and should be pretty inexpensive. You can see the one on mine in the
    photo section:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KodiakChassisClassC/photos/album/0/list

    It's in my group "ggimlick"

The bracket just slips into the gap at the bottom of the door and then a
steel washer is placed over the pin before the door is set back on it. That
spreads the load out over the steel bracket rather than concentrate it at
    the plastic hinge point.

This poll is to provide some data to Norcold. They are not involved in this
poll nor do they know we are doing it.

Maybe the problem isn't wide spread, I don't know, but a search on RV.net
yields an awful lot of references to breaking hinges.

I would love to show up at our "rally" with a box of them, but the rally is
a week too early for me to attend :-(

If you have a Norcold unit, PLEASE respond to the poll.

    Take care,
    Greg

Some of the poll choices did not match my situation very well -
I did have a door that failed, but Norcold sent me a new door, and I installed it myself.
My failure, and replacement, were so long ago (2006), that I don't know if I received a new style door.
I have inspected my (new) door and see what looks like stress lines in the plastic, and there might be a fracture (I would need to remove the door and inspect with a magnifying glass to be sure of the crack.)

A few weeks back I contacted Norcold and got this response:

    Good Afternoon,
The doors have been reinforced, however there is not a part that you can purchase. It is all part of the door and the whole
door would need to be replaced. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

At least there is now a paper trail and evidence of a prior failure - the last time ours broke, I was standing by the dinette when the wife opened the frig. She screamed and I caught the door before it hit her foot. If it breaks again, and does any damage... I hope to own NorcoldJ

We couldn't hit it all perfectly, but you could reply to the poll saying
that Norcold has told you the whole door needs replacement.

I've sent a copy of the response you got from Norcold to someone inside the
plant who is not happy about the way these are being handled, especially
when there is obviously a part available, but not being distributed.

    Take care,
    Greg

    Thanks
Also, I'm sure I marked the poll as they said I needed to replace the whole door... that is what I did. Just that I seem to be headed down that same road againL
