Help with Xantrex Inverter

Yahoo Message Number: 2273
Hello, a couple of weeks ago I posted that I has lost power to my
front TV in my Jayco Seneca and have yet to solve the problem in
total.

Today I rechecked my Xantrex Sine Wave Inverter RS400 again as the
possible culprit and have realized that the converter is not
receiving 110 power. The plug servicing the inverter is dead. When I
plugged the unit into an extension cord that was plugged into a known
to be good socket everything came on. All of the lights on the front
of the inverter as well as the front TV.

So my first question is what circuit breaker would service the power
plug for the inverter? This is a single outlet attached to the floor
beneath the bedroom drawer. I have checked and rechecked all the
circuit breakers inside the camper and even the generator without
luck.

My second question is how would the inverter operate when not
connected to shore power if it requires to be plugged into a 110
socket? When both switches for the inverter are turned on (the "on"
switch on the face of the unit and the "inverter on" switch on the
interior of the camper)should not the unit turn on and convert 12v to
110 for at least the TV when no 110 is available at the socket? Is my
inverter bad as well as a dead socket?

By the way, the 7A fuse on the inverter is not tripped. This unit
works when plugged into a good 110 source.

For a simplified diagram see http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/8/learn.asp

You already mentioned some systems are wired for the parking break. You should also look for a low battery condition which you can check by a) the light on the inverter or B) by your generator read out panel. The inverter shuts itself off if there is insufficient battery.

On question two - Yes

When shore power is disconnected, the inverter/charger inverts power from the battery banks to provide power to connected appliances. This means the inverter/charger draws 12-volt DC power from the battery banks and inverts it into 120-volt AC. An internal transfer switch senses whether shore power is present, allowing the unit to instantly switch from charge mode to invert mode when power is disconnected.

There is a DC fuse on the battery circuit. So true inverter function is performed only when the Inverter is functional, the fuse is working, and ample DC power is supplied to the inverter and there is no shore power.

Documentation is available here: http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/471/docserve.aspx

And more details on installation and wiring here: http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/472/docserve.aspx

I do not know the routing of the ac socket to shore power, but it is supposed to be through the main AC Circuit Breaker Panel which you say you have checked already. Some of these breakers are very hard to check without physically cycling the breaker. Have you checked them by cycling them while appliances are off? Are your GFCI sockets all working?

I have had a similar problem with the xantrex inverter on my Jaco
Greyhawk coach. When the coach is not plugged into shore power and
the TV is turned on, it will come on after cycling on and off about
5 or 6 times. I have had the inverter replaced recently and it still
does the same thing. I wouldn't think that the cycling on and off
would be normal.
