Jayco Kodiak Jack Problem

Yahoo Message Number: 520
Looking on this forum and RVNet I noted that several folks have
reported a problem on their Jayco/Kodiaks wherein their jacks will
automatically retract when the ignition switch is turned to the on
position. I saw where at least one person fixed this themselves but I
got the feeling that more folks out there might still be having this
problem. Anyway, this has been buggin' me on our 33DS greyhawk ever
since we took delivery in Dec. Well... I finally got it fixed and
here's the story... (kinda lengthy post).

I knew this wasn't acting right so I took it to our local Jayco
dealer. A few days later they called back and said there was no
problem and that it was working just like all the other Jayco/Kodiaks
they've sold. So I proceeded to show them the instructions in the
PowerGear manual which clearly stated that you had to turn the
ignition to the "on" position and then retract the jacks by pushing
the "retract" button. To their credit, they listened to me and agreed
to pursue it.

First they called PowerGear and over a 2 day period, spent a lot of
time with them on the phone going through and troubleshooting the
entire hydraulic jack system. In the end it was determined that all
the PowerGear stuff was working correctly. However the controller was
receiving a signal that the vehicle was trying to start up and so it
went into the emergency retract mode (jacks up, lights flashing and
alarm beeping). But... of course the engine had not actually been
started, so the PowerGear folks concluded that their system was
receiving a bogus signal.

Next the service guy called Jayco and talked through the problem with
them. He soon learned that Jayco had installed an intermediate relay
in between the Kodiak systems and the PowerGear systems. So then
after some more over-the-phone troubleshooting it was finally
determined that the relay had been wired incorrectly at the Jayco
factory. The fix was to move a connector wire from one relay pin to
another (the correct one this time). BTW, the only detail I got was
that it had been a ground wire connected to the wrong pin. Also I'm
not sure where the relay is physically located but will ask when I go
back. Anyway... now everything works great!

My dealer service guy said they would be contacting their other
Jayco/Kodiak customers now so as to fix this problem in those coaches
too. Hope this helps some of you out there.

Bill

I posted a fix for this in this group several months ago. It was
what Jayco calls a Product Improvement Paper. Anyway, it was a
factory fix that was very simple, but they wanted you to go to the
dealer to have it done. It took me 10 minutes to fix it.

I just copied your note on RV.net and sent it to Jayco service as two minutes before reading it I sent them my laundry list of things that had to be fixed - and forgot this one.

Thanks.

I remember you posting this and thought I had saved it, but now I can't
find it. Any chance you or someone who didn't lose it could post it
again? Thanks

Take care,
Greg
