Jayco Kodiak Jack Problem February 02, 2008, 07:40:44 pm Yahoo Message Number: 520Looking on this forum and RVNet I noted that several folks havereported a problem on their Jayco/Kodiaks wherein their jacks willautomatically retract when the ignition switch is turned to the onposition. I saw where at least one person fixed this themselves but Igot the feeling that more folks out there might still be having thisproblem. Anyway, this has been buggin' me on our 33DS greyhawk eversince we took delivery in Dec. Well... I finally got it fixed andhere's the story... (kinda lengthy post).I knew this wasn't acting right so I took it to our local Jaycodealer. A few days later they called back and said there was noproblem and that it was working just like all the other Jayco/Kodiaksthey've sold. So I proceeded to show them the instructions in thePowerGear manual which clearly stated that you had to turn theignition to the "on" position and then retract the jacks by pushingthe "retract" button. To their credit, they listened to me and agreedto pursue it.First they called PowerGear and over a 2 day period, spent a lot oftime with them on the phone going through and troubleshooting theentire hydraulic jack system. In the end it was determined that allthe PowerGear stuff was working correctly. However the controller wasreceiving a signal that the vehicle was trying to start up and so itwent into the emergency retract mode (jacks up, lights flashing andalarm beeping). But... of course the engine had not actually beenstarted, so the PowerGear folks concluded that their system wasreceiving a bogus signal.Next the service guy called Jayco and talked through the problem withthem. He soon learned that Jayco had installed an intermediate relayin between the Kodiak systems and the PowerGear systems. So thenafter some more over-the-phone troubleshooting it was finallydetermined that the relay had been wired incorrectly at the Jaycofactory. The fix was to move a connector wire from one relay pin toanother (the correct one this time). BTW, the only detail I got wasthat it had been a ground wire connected to the wrong pin. Also I'mnot sure where the relay is physically located but will ask when I goback. Anyway... now everything works great! My dealer service guy said they would be contacting their otherJayco/Kodiak customers now so as to fix this problem in those coachestoo. Hope this helps some of you out there.Bill Quote Selected
Re: Jayco Kodiak Jack Problem Reply #1 – February 02, 2008, 08:06:24 pm Yahoo Message Number: 522I posted a fix for this in this group several months ago. It waswhat Jayco calls a Product Improvement Paper. Anyway, it was afactory fix that was very simple, but they wanted you to go to thedealer to have it done. It took me 10 minutes to fix it.Mike, "berfle624"wrote:QuoteLooking on this forum and RVNet I noted that several folks havereported a problem on their Jayco/Kodiaks wherein their jacks willautomatically retract when the ignition switch is turned to the onposition.
