Western trip post mortum

Yahoo Message Number: 4608
I'm still not home, but I've been there for a couple of days in the last
month.

We packed up the Greyhawk 32SS (gasser) and headed to Denver from NC on
the 25th of April..I think. The mission was to go see the newest
grandson in Thornton, CO (Suburb of Denver) and see if he's a keeper
like his older brother. Turns out he is :-)

We drove a couple of days and then laid over at Casino Queen RV Park in
St Louis. If you haven't been there, it's quite a nice park and well
run. Shuttle to the Casino if you like that so you never have to unhook
the TOAD either. Then on to Denver over the next couple of days.

We stayed just north of Denver this time at St Vrain St Park. Gorgeous
scenery and a really nice state park right off I-25. Convenient for our
daily runs to my son's house in Thornton. I'll get some photos posted
when I get home from this little add on trip.

We also went up to Estes Park and spent some time walking around The
Stanley, which is the hotel where The Shining was filmed. The original
with Jack Nicholson. Very cool place and worth the trip.

Roads were closed at the 9500 ft level because of snow still. We had
everything from a bit of snow to 75 mph wind gusts while camping.
Interesting weather this time of year in that area.

My thanks to Todd for offering to help if I needed it while I was there.
He's a list member who lives just up the road from where I was staying.
I thought I had a heater problem, but got it resolved without issue.

Lot's of big RV dealers in that area, but we never got a chance to go
looking the way we wanted. Just not enough time to spend with the kids
and do much tourist stuff too. My wife had to get back to work in NC.

We drove back and spent a couple days in Hermann, MO to rest and that's
a neat place if you get a chance to stay there. We did the wine tours
and enjoyed a very vibrant German town undergoing extensive restoration.
Very interested stop.

Got home and unloaded, then reloaded to come to the coast for a ten day
rest from the vacation :-) I should say I get to rest. Kathy had to go
back today to work for a couple of days before coming back down to rest
herself.

The best news, other than the keeper grandson, was everything really
went great. No breakdowns, no hiccups, nothing. The old Greyhawk did its
thing well and drove like a champ. I still have all the stock suspension
gear and am still happy with it.

Of course as our trips get longer, the 32SS gets smaller so we're giving
some consideration to moving to a class A or go back to towing and get a
fifth wheel. Kathy misses the living space, but I'm not sure I'm willing
to give up the ease of traveling this way :-)

A local dealer is after me to give it to him on consignment as he says
the market for this type of rig is good right now and he thinks he can
do better than I thought I might be able to sell it for. We'll discuss
it this weekend. The problem with doing it is we'd be without a camper
this summer and I'm not sure either of us is ready for that :-)

Take care,
Greg
