Radio Upgrade October 05, 2008, 08:07:50 am Yahoo Message Number: 1788The stock GM radio leaves a lot to be desired in our 2004 Gulf Stream. At a local Wal-Mart they had a couple of closeout Sony radios. Boughtboth of them. Installed one in Outside Entrainment Center. This was aeasy install. This got rid the analog radio that would not hold a station.Replaced dash radio with other one. I thought it was 1 hour job. 6hours later job was done. Mount adapter (Scosche GMT2049B) for GMradio to after market radio is close. But is off by about 1/8". Aftercutting and filing it fit.Wiring was another problem. The adapter available for the chimes willnot work with the 2004 Kodiak (Scosche GM2000). Had to go with a wireadapter that is a direct hookup (Scosche GM035). This kit does nothave a direct hookup for radio power. Needed to hook up a folded backorange wire in the GM harness to original radio. This provides powerto when ignition key is in run or accessory position.Chimes do not work anymore. To me this is a good thing. When I andothers had some chassis warnings. The sound is intolerable. Warninglights still work.I also wired up a switch to allow radio to work off coach power. On myKodiak there is power off the emergency start power switch. Which ismounted above switch I installed for this option. Put a fuse in this line.Rear speakers are a common complaint on the Gulf Stream MH's. Pulledthe right and left kick side panels. Wires for rear speakers are wireddirect to front speakers in this area. Cut these wires out andinstalled wire that hooks to wire harness of new radio for rear speakers.Sure am happy that I have finally got rid of OEM radio and fixed someannoying items. Posted a picture in my photo area. Switch for Cab andCoach power is on lower right. To left of XM radio.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KodiakChassisClassC/photos/album/427332225/pic/1213429787/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=21&count=20&dir=asc Quote Selected
Re: Radio Upgrade Reply #1 – October 05, 2008, 09:17:19 am Yahoo Message Number: 1789I'm exhausted just reading this (and today I have to close the pool and need all my energy). I sure would never let DW read your posts or I'd get an earful for being so lazy. Our Greyhawk didn't come with a stock GM radio. It has the same radio we had in our Ambassador and Journey (Magnadyne). What has annoyed me is that they (Jayco, HR and Winnie - along with Magnadyne) did not have the smarts to provide an aux input for our iPod, XM radio, etc. I've never heard many (any?) favourable comments on the Magnadyne radio. Only good feature seems to be the weather band.DonOn 5-Oct-08, at 8:07 AM, Ron Hall wrote: Quote Selected
