Radio Upgrade

The stock GM radio leaves a lot to be desired in our 2004 Gulf Stream.
At a local Wal-Mart they had a couple of closeout Sony radios. Bought
both of them. Installed one in Outside Entrainment Center. This was a
easy install. This got rid the analog radio that would not hold a station.

Replaced dash radio with other one. I thought it was 1 hour job. 6
hours later job was done. Mount adapter (Scosche GMT2049B) for GM
radio to after market radio is close. But is off by about 1/8". After
cutting and filing it fit.

Wiring was another problem. The adapter available for the chimes will
not work with the 2004 Kodiak (Scosche GM2000). Had to go with a wire
adapter that is a direct hookup (Scosche GM035). This kit does not
have a direct hookup for radio power. Needed to hook up a folded back
orange wire in the GM harness to original radio. This provides power
to when ignition key is in run or accessory position.

Chimes do not work anymore. To me this is a good thing. When I and
others had some chassis warnings. The sound is intolerable. Warning
lights still work.

I also wired up a switch to allow radio to work off coach power. On my
Kodiak there is power off the emergency start power switch. Which is
mounted above switch I installed for this option. Put a fuse in this line.

Rear speakers are a common complaint on the Gulf Stream MH's. Pulled
the right and left kick side panels. Wires for rear speakers are wired
direct to front speakers in this area. Cut these wires out and
installed wire that hooks to wire harness of new radio for rear speakers.

Sure am happy that I have finally got rid of OEM radio and fixed some
annoying items. Posted a picture in my photo area. Switch for Cab and
Coach power is on lower right. To left of XM radio.

I'm exhausted just reading this (and today I have to close the pool and need all my energy). I sure would never let DW read your posts or I'd get an earful for being so lazy. :)

Our Greyhawk didn't come with a stock GM radio. It has the same radio we had in our Ambassador and Journey (Magnadyne). What has annoyed me is that they (Jayco, HR and Winnie - along with Magnadyne) did not have the smarts to provide an aux input for our iPod, XM radio, etc. I've never heard many (any?) favourable comments on the Magnadyne radio. Only good feature seems to be the weather band.

I will not tell your DW about my projects.
Every time I tackle one of these upgrades I think it is a 1 to 2 hour
project. At times it's more like 1 to 2 days. I falling behind on my
getting ready for winter projects. Trim shrubs, Trim trees, spread
wood chips, close up garden pond, wash windows (house has 40 some
windows) change oil in 10 gas and diesel engines and winterize MH. I'm
sure there are more that DW has on her list. But it's on bottom of my
list. Got talking to my neighbor this week. He wants help with a drain
and digging up a tree stump. You have any spare time after the your
pool is done? I need some help.
