'06 SENECA 35GS Bedroom Slide inoperative

Beedroom slide fails to extend. Am 1,000 miles from home and local RV repair shop in Bend, Oregon diagonised problem as broken gear in gear reduction box and broken tooth get's jambed into rack. Slide only moves 2" to 3" then stops. Power Gear says that gear box is no longer available and must change gearbox and motor.
Has anyone else had this problem? What was cost of repair? Thinking of waiting until I get home in 7 days to complete the repair.
