Title: Adding additional floor frame bracing?

anyone ever added additional floor frame bracing on these things? i swear my rig is developing a wall sag type situation that toy hauler trailers are notorious for. I'm noticing that the floor, especially in the center in the living room and the bathroom between the truck chassis frame rails, has started creaking loudly when walking around in the coach while parked and set up in numerous different areas of the coach that it has never done before. if I'm sitting outside at the campfire, i can tell exactly where the wife is walking in or moving inside the motorhome as the creaking sounds move around to different areas of the motorhome. have also been noticing some very strange and concerning creaking and cracking noises in the sidewalls while driving as the coach flexes and moves around depending on the road conditions. the floor framing is simply attached to the chassis frame rails in a 'T" looking type situation with no support from any sort of outriggers that would help to hold the outer part of the floor and walls up. i had a peek under my buddies 26' 2018 coachman freelander on the 4500 chevy van chassis and it has outriggers present. I'm strongly considering picking up a couple sticks of steel and going to town making and welding in outriggers wherever i can access to install.

thoughts?

My MH had some shims stuck between flooring frame and floor. Found them
a 4 years after I bought it. I put new flooring in. Decided to removed
shims after that. Did not take long and a screw that hold sub flooring
pop threw my laminate flooring. When I repaired flooring I tighten up
the screw and repaired floor. But it always squeaked until I put shims
back where original shims were. The squeaking floor was most prevalent
in AZ where everything shrinks because of the dry climate. Many of the
early Gulf Stream Super C's had a problem with flooring above the rear
axle. GS did not put any support on frame to support floor in this area.
I added a 1" square tubing support frame in this area. There are
pictures and post in the forum on this.

This may be totally unrelated but I want to mention that a few years ago my Seneca ZX developed a creaky garage floor while I was on a trip. The floor had always been rock solid until this trip. I found that my creaky floor was caused by weeping connections at the shower hot and cold water valves. Shower is opposite side of garage bulkhead wall. Water weeping onto and under the floor made it squeak. After things dried out all creaking went away. The garage floor is still rock solid, so I guess that I got it fixed before permanent wood delamination damage occurred.

Best regards,

Frank Bock

PS - In case anyone knows someone who is looking, I am thinking of selling my 07 Seneca toyhauler in 2019. It is very minty clean, stored in an enclosed garage since 2010, approx. 49,000 miles, impeccable maintenance, located in SE MICHIGAN. Not sure on price just yet. My email contact is

I added a 1" steel tubing frame between the frame rails to support the fresh water tanks on my '06 Seneca 34SS. I glued pieces of a rubber mat to the top in the hope that it would slow down any chafing wear to the tanks.
I also added a layer of 5/8" plywood to my floors when I put in my hydronic floor heat to replace my LP heater and hot water heater, and replaced the carpet with flooring.

Good luck with finding a way to stop the squeaks while traveling!

I had to add some bracing to my 6331 Endura. There were places where the floor supports were only every 4 feet!!!! House building standards are at least every 24".

thanks for the replies all, i appreciate it. some squeaks i understand but my concern is more for the fact that it seems like there may be structure issues developing that i would like to get ahead of if possible. its a 34G four winds so it already was built with issues stemming from the wheelbase that is too short so when i tow the flatbed with my jeep on it, there is even more stress being put on everything.

I've actually recently listed it for sale on CL to see if any interest. I've had about enough of it but until it sells, i need to keep up on it so the floor framing needs to be addressed somehow.

John,
I've got the same 34G as yours.. Damn shirt wheelbase is an issue in Manny ways, for sure.. When I tow my car trailer I went with a equalizer hitch setup. Eze Lift style.. Seems to have taken a lot of stress of of the hitch and frame.. Just thought I'd relate my experience...

If tongue load and towing instability are issues, go with the Strait-line weight distribution hitch by Reese. I tow a 28' 12,000 lb trailer with my 225" wheelbase kodiak based Gulfstream Endura and it is a dramatic improvement in towing stability and weight distribution. This hitch prevents sway from even starting due to the cam setup on the trunnion bars.

I would not be able to tow my trailer without it. Buy the next weight class up from what you are actually towing and crank up the pre-load on the trunnion bars. Dramatic towing stability improvement! You probably won't need to sell your rv after you try this.

I put airbags in the rear of mine made a world of difference. I just did airlift, was less than 400 bucks and I installed myself in less than two hours.

I've looked long and hard into a distribution setup but because of the crappy 213" wheelbase, the tail overhang is huuuuuuuuuuge so the ass end has a bad tendency to drag itself (the receiver hitch) when going thru driveway dips when the tail dips down. with my flatbed, i have to run a 6" drop ball mount and it drags everywhere even more. with the weight distribution bars it would drag even that much more and i'm concerned with the upward force being placed on the rear of the moho.

there are more reasons than just that part as to why i decided to put it up for sale. this was our first motorhome after having been trailer people for many years. so far its been a pretty sour experience as far as this particular motorhome goes but maybe we're just trailer trash, lol!

if we had the means, our dream rig is a Renegade XL.....drool....

well, no longer something i need to worry about anymore as the motorhome left my possession today for a new life in Valencia with its new owners. it was an interesting ride for 1.5 years, took us to some pretty neat places. also drove me nuts mentally but i learned a lot and since i did not lose my shorts in the sale, i can't complain.
