Air Filter, Wheel bearings and rear end fluid for gasser

I was going to change the air filter in my Kodiak 8.1L gas and wanted to
use a K&N filter, but according to their site they don't make one. I
could have sworn someone here was using a K&N...oh well. Any
recommendations for a better than OEM filter?

Next issue; how often do you guys have the front wheel bearings packed?

Now, how about rear end fluid? How often are you changing it and what
are you using? When I was towing with my crewcab truck I ran LE-607 in
the rear end, but haven't checked to see if it's suitable for medium
duty trucks. I suspect it is, but will check.

There are two different air filters. If your's is round they're pretty easy to find. If flat I found it very hard to find after visiting numerous auto parts stores. Chevy had them. Think there is a K&N round filter.

When we were in Kerrville Dane put a new filter in his 2008. He was charged well over $70 for it.
The Kodiak's are not known for air flow problems. Stick with stock. Should be able to get up to 50,000 on OEM filter.
Use SAE 75W-90 SYNTHETIC AXLE LUBRICANT FOR MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS.

I just put a air filter in my 2008...2007.5 chassis and it was something like $80. K&N has uphrade.kits for LMM AND LNN motors...suoposes to

That is close to the average (friendly) price I found when I checked around. That was using my connections at both a dealer and parts house.

Ron I ordered the three from e-bay for under 60.00 for all three. What a bargain and thanks for sending me to them. How often do you pack the front bearings? Book says 25K but I believe 50K is more than sufficient. We will be departing on 15 May, Lord willing, for 4 months to Utah, Oregon, Rainy Lake. Canada, then on to Maine. Minn, Michigan and who know where else. I hope these fuel prices level out as I cannot afford 5 bucks a gallon. Dane

I have not repacked my bearings yet. Shame on me. I will add it to the list for this summer. The list is getting bigger. Rear Axle, Remove generator and repair/service and now front wheel bearings.
I better not hear that you passed though Michigan and did not stop at our place.
Found Diesel at Sams Club in Lubbock, TX. $3.73. Cheapest we have found since we left started home last week.

I've found a couple of K&N numbers that look to be about $90

That's what I've decided to do. I took mine out and looked it over, but
it looks pretty clean. I blew it backwards out with the compressor and
not that much junk came out of it.

I've only got 22,500 miles so far.

Thanks, I may or may not get it done before we leave. If I change it,
I'll probably go to LE 607 fluid for the rear end. I used that on a
previous towing vehicle and it surpassed anything I've ever used. I also
had a Mag Hytec rear end cover on that truck and the temps of the rear
end went down in a huge way. I don't know if they make an after market
cover for the Kodiak though.
