Jayco Kodiak Structural Connectors

Yahoo Message Number: 564
I never woulda thunk about this issue had it not been for Denny's RV
Factor blog. Thanks again Denny... I think. Anyway, he describes the
connector bolts used in his 4-Winds to attach the motorhome shell
flooring to the frame. I looked at his pictures and my first thought
was "hey those look pretty substantial". However I read on and his
concerns eventually made sense.

So then I figured, maybe I'll just go out and get a look at the bolts
holding the flooring to the frame in our Jayco 33DS. So with
flashlight and creeper I once again went lurking under the chassis.
But dang... I just couldn't see any bolts remotely looking like the
pictures in the RVFactor.

Well I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that all I could locate
holding it all together were some self-tapping screws and not even a
whole lot of those (I uploaded a picture of what I observed). Now I
certainly don't pretend to understand the physics & engineering
involved in deciding what's the best way to hold a motorhome together
but I gotta tell you that the picture of the bolt secured with nut &
washer sure "feels" more substantial to me than a screw.

Don't know if this is a Kodiak/Greyhawk situation only or if it
extends to the Senecas as well.
