Generator Auto Start

Yahoo Message Number: 1213
A couple of things that have bothered me while traveling and boon
docking at rest area's or other stops. Was what if the batteries run
low overnight running the furnace or it get to hot inside RV. We
travel with our dog and may leave her in the MH while touring. My
Class a friends pointed out how they had a Generator Auto Start that
is part of their Inverter. My 1500 inverter does not have this
feature. After doing some reserch I found 2 different models that I
could use on the MH.
Magnum (http://www.magnumenergy.com/Autogenstart.htm)
RidgeCreek (http://www.mastertech-inc.com/ridgecreek/)

Chose the RidgeCreek model because I did not believe that I needed time.
Installed the unit next to the control for starting the generator.
Worked out well. Generator will now start automatically if temperature
gets above 80 degrees or voltage drops below 11.5 volts. Dog should be
happy with this mod and I don't have worry about batteries going low
at night from the furnace running to much.
See photos here on Kodiak Chassis Class C Motorhomes.

I'm hoping he has full hookups in his yard so I can get on the schedule :-)

Take care,
Greg

Yes, I was going to ask the same thing. Since he did invite me to drop by his home (we are not all that far away at Waterford Hills when we attend my son's races) I may take him up but arrive with a "to do" list he can work on. :)

Keep up the good work Ron. I get exhausted just thinking about all you've done to your MH.

Don

ps. With the arrive of his daughter my son has not had a chance to fix his car. At the second last corner on the last lap of the year he had a collison. Kind of ruined a good season. Since he built the car from scratch in many cases he can't just buy off the shelf parts. Some photos from last year. http://picasaweb.google.com/Grandriver125/WaterfordHills2007SeasonRacePhotos

That offer is still there Don. As well as other Kodiak Chassis Class C
Motorhomes members. Contact me by this forum if you are or going to be
in the area. I live in the country on 4 acre's.
As far as doing RV work. It's a hobby. Not a job. Always willing to
help others though if they are in the area. There is a large RV dealer
with a large accessory/parts department. Also Onan/Cummins, Coach Care
about 3 miles away.
I did another upgrade yesterday between rain showers. Installed a
down-turned exhaust tip. Hoping to cut down on the diesel soot that
collects on side of MH. Never noticed it until I decided to wax what I
thought was a clean surface. When waxing was completed there was a
gray look to all the white surfaces behind exhaust.

After rubbing out the mess, it looks good again.
While I was at it I looked at the complete exhaust system. My system
is all GM and very well mounted. Thought I would be able to help
others with part numbers. But it requires both exhaust pipe and
brackets to mount. Very expensive from GM I would guess.

Ron, we have 2 acres now and had 3.1 in our previous home. Moving down to a typical pie lot on a cul de sac across the river from you this summer. This is going to be really tough after 25 years of lots of room (prior to our 3.1 we had a city lot but also a country home on 10 acres). Going to be frustrating looking out the windows to see other homes in all four directions. Now the home on each side of us are a good distance away and in front of us is the Grand River and behind us farm land with corn planted. I have to say I'm not going to miss all the work involved but the lifestyle sure is going to be different.

Once we get settled (our buy close is July 16 and sell is Aug 28) and we are heading to Waterford for a weekend I'll have to let you know and when we come home on the Monday after the races we will drop by for a visit. In the past we departed via Port Huron but now it will be through that construction mess at the bridge in Windsor. My guess is that as the crow flies we are not even 40 miles from you and about 50 max by road.

Bev has HATED convection ovens. Perhaps your DW can enlighten her on how to use them properly. That is not an area (along with many others) that I can claim an expertise at all. I usually use the MW to make popcorn or warm up a cup of coffee. :)
