Slide problem and temporary fix Greyhawk 32SS

I first took out the drawer above the 12V fuse panel and checked the
wiring. Initially I thought I'd found the problem - but was I off
base. There were two wires hanging at the right end (15 and 16) and a
connector lying below. I thought "there is the problem, the connector
fell off." Then looked again and 15 is a blank and 16 is for the
power sofa, which we don't have. So, fuse panel looks OK. Then
checked out the coach battery to ensure it appeared OK. Water level
was fine - no change from new.

Then I rolled under the MH front slide and started looking. Found the
slide motor. Looked OK. Then I noticed that the pair of wires were
positioned rather strangely. AH HA, what is that, a drive shaft runs
out each side of the drive wheel attached to the motor and one side is
VERY close to the motor and the nut holding on the bolt that keeps the
shaft on looks to be rubbing on the motor case. Wait, those two wires
are jammed between the motor case and the nut (see photo). From the
roadside looking through the battery compartment door everything looks
    okay.

In the third photo you can see the wire with the insulation torn open
from the nut on the rotating shaft and that exposed wire was creating
the short that blew the fuse. The strange aspect of this, however, is
that the fuse that blew was the No. 1 fuse that was marked Bedroom
Slide NOT the number 12 fuse marked front slide. So, it appears they
    reversed the fuse connections.

I've wrapped the exposed wire with electrical tape and pushed it out
of the way of the nut on the shaft. Don't know how long it will stay
out of the way and I'll check it periodically. We still have to go
into Jayco to get some paint work done and I think I'll get them to
fix this (if they think it is a problem) along with the exhaust
hanger. Hmm. Since they suggested I get the hanger fixed at a muffler
shop maybe I'd be better off doing that and sending them the bill as
    requested.

I just used electrical tape to cover the break in the insulation and moved the wires out of the way of the nut. When we go back to Middlebury (if there is anyone left there) to get the paint work done I'm going to have them look at the way the motor and slide drive shafts were installed. Just doesn't look right as that nut has been striking the motor.

ps. Ron, we are just across the bridge from you now - well, a few days a week until we close at the other end.
