Kodiak Blown Engine

Well we were on the way back from Louisiana and the coolant alarm
sounded and it shut me down barely getting off the road. I put some
more coolent in the resovore and it just went straight through. I
tried to crank and got nothing but a white smoke pop like Viet Nam.
Anyway it was towed to a dealership and awaiting the final diagnosis
but I suspect a blown head gasket or cracked head on an engine with
only 5K milage. WOW what a great RV experience. Dane

Dane,

Did you check to see if your fan clutch is still in it's rightful place.
I just had my fail on i40, see photos in yahoo forum.
I feel your pain!

Was the fan and thanks for the info after I informed the dealer then
they will fix the issue. I have some health issues that may dictate
the sale. I have it loaded with every available option including
paint and satellite along with 4K upgrades to he suspension. Only 5
K miles so it is cherry. All the bugs have been worked out as well.
Anyway it is not the breakdown that dictated the sale but what I got
in the mail on some heath issues when I returned home. God Bless!

Dane,

My rig only had 13,000 miles; how many miles does yours have? I think others should pay attention to their fans. I'm personally not aware of any way of checking if it's going south or not!

I'm hoping that the second one last more than 13,000 miles..

Interesting that you had to inform the dealership, they should know to look ( i guess I'm asking to much).

(soapbox)

My wife and I feel that most people in a service industry do just enough to get by, they don't have the desire to do more.....it's very frustrating. It seems that they have the "It's not in my job description" attitude. I like to call it "The Me Syndrome"

(soapbox off)

I hope things go better for both in Health and RVing....

Sorry did not get back to yo but had a heart attack on Saturday and
in the hosptal but better now. I am going to sell mine with only 5K
miles and over 5K in upgrades on suspension if anyone is interested.
Just too many darn health problems. Dane

I just bought a new 2007 MH with an 8.1. I guess I should be
concerned about the fan clutch. Any pointers or clues ?
Thanks Rich in Michigan.

I thought the problem happened on a diesel, not the 8.1, am I wrong?

Take care,
Greg

I wasn't sure about the engine.....as you can tell.
I just thought that most of the Kodiak's were 8.1.
I've googled the 8.1 and found a few problems back a few years.
The Duramax I know has/had some piston problems, I hope that's
cleared up.
Thanks Greg, Rich.

We all should be concerned regardless of motor, I would check what your current roadside service offers regarding towing long distance. These things are mechanical and are going to be down sometime during our ownership, hopefully not, but........it happens!

The egr valve was also bad on it and they have replaced it also.
Man, I was scared it was the engine but thank God it was only minor.
Anyway now doing better from the heart attack I had last week. Dane
