Greyhawk generator mount

If one of you folks with a Greyhawk on a Kodiak chassis (it may not
matter) get a chance and have nothing better to do than crawl under it
and look around.......

I was looking at my generator today and there are four springs that
serve as mounting legs. One is red and is at the right rear corner and
it's the only one that isn't fastened to the frame. This allows it to
bounce on that corner pretty good and it squeaks like crazy. I'm
assuming it should be fastened, but the corner of the frame looks
different too so I'm not sure the way they fastened the others would work.

Just curious if anyone has looked at theirs and noticed similar stuff.

Don - I checked out all my exhaust mounts today and they look to be fine
although the steel pieces are pretty rusty. I'm going to spray them down
with a neutralizer just for grins.

Take care,
Greg

Keep an eye on the tail pipe bracket so you don't get a nasty surprise.

I'll crawl under mine tomorrow and look at the generator mounts. Nothing would surprise me any more. When we had our new 04 Journey 39W we read about problems on RV.net with respect to the four bolts that hold the diesel generator in the cage at the front of the MH shearing off. So, got on my coveralls and crawled underneath. ALL FOUR BOLTS HAD SHEARED and there was nothng to holding it in the cage.

I sure will, especially after hearing so many others with that problem.

Thanks, I'll be anxious to hear what you find.

Holy smokes, that would get your attention. My wife was asking me last
night if I was so anal about checking everything or worrying about
everything with my Winnie back in 81 and I told her nope, but I was
young and just drove it back then. I also only had $12K into it so there
is quite a difference :-)

Take care,
Greg

Crawled under the Greyhawk 32SS this morning (this is "almost" getting to be fun :) ) and found that there a 4 very tight bolts and nuts holding it to the platform/cage it sits in. Frankly, to a layman's eye it appeared very secure and I was very pleased with it.

Here are the four photos I send to Winnie showing the 4 sheared bolts. They had, apparently (or so the story goes) been over-torqued. So, the large 7500 watt diesel generator was just sitting loose in the cage.

I'm glad you said "almost" ;-)

So there are no springs on the mount of your generator? It's solidly
    mounted to the frame?

Yes appears to be a solid mount. I won't start having fun with it until next May when I have to decide to change the oil and filter myself or have it done. I did the first Class A gasser we had myself and it was a pain given access was so difficult. The next two diesels were done during annual chassis maintenance. The frustrating aspect is that the generator will have about 12 hours on it - all exercise time since everywhere we park we have electricity.

I'll be darned, I wonder why they changed. My Minnie Winnie had a
vibration mount much like this, but the bolts went down thru the
generator ears, thru the springs and then the frame with a lock nut on
the bottom. These springs appear to be held to the frame by magic. There
is a pin of some sort going thru the side of it.

I'll try to get a couple of photos of it when I bring it over to the
house later today. Of course we're actually getting rain for the first
time in over 40 days so I may choose not to crawl under it and I can't
    complain about the rain.

    Take care,
    Greg

ps. Looked at some eye bolts today. Frankly, for the weight involved I think the one I'm using is more than strong enough.
