Towed Tahoe for first time today

Since we are departing for FLA on Saturday and we'd never connected and
towed the Tahoe behind the Jayco we felt we had better take a test run.
Hadn't connected a toad since April so I had to go slowly and make sure
I didn't miss anything. Got it all done and set off on a 4 mile route
with a decent uphill run and a gas station we could get into so we could
leave Saturday and have a full tank.

Well, I regularly hear "you can't even tell you are towing." Let me say
that I sure did know I was towing as 6000 lbs behind about 18,000 (not
fully loaded yet) with torque of 440 just doesn't compare with 6000
behind 32,000 with torque of 950. We believe there is a pretty big
difference between towing with the Jayco Greyhawk 32SS and our
Ambassador. The Kodiak towed OK and the fact it is 8 ft shorter did
make a difference. But the lack of muscle meant you knew it was there
when pulling away from a stop and when going uphill and the lack of an
exhaust brake reminded you it was there when going down hill and when
braking.

At least I now know what to expect when we depart. Now I have to hope
the fuel mileage won't suffer too much or we will have to alter our
planned gas stops. Scan gauge showed around 7 on the instant reading
for the 4 miles home but I hope it is better than that when we are on
the highway at 60 mph.

Don,

We just put on about 1500 miles towing our Tahoe from Branson to Los Angeles.... average around 7 driving 70 mph With our "shorter" wheelbase, the hills felt like the "tail was wagging the dog" on our coach. No rain though, so no steering control issues except on a couple sharper curves...

Thanks Denny. Our road test was only 8 miles and top speed wasn't too high (perhaps 50 mph) so I'll be cautious on that tail wag. I had a feeling we might be getting a bit of that but I guess I'll find out for sure on Saturday.
