Those *&%&^$$ basement compartment locks are ^$&^%*%&^% garbage.
Turned the key when locking one today and the key snapped off. Thank
goodness I was able to get the stub out of the lock. Now to hope our
local hardware store can make two more from our second one - otherwise
we will always have to find another Jayco owner to open our basement -
as a fellow at our dealer told me that he thinks they only have ONE key
for every basement lock on every MH they have ever made. :(

Real fun day trying to get packed to depart for FLA in the morning. The
past 3 years I'd look at the "stuff" DW had stacked for me to load and
every year I'd tell her there is no way I'll get it all in. With the
huge belly hold in the Ambassador we always ended up with room to spare
(and me with a red face). This time I have a feeling we will be doing
something we have not had to do in the past - put a lot of stuff in the
toad. Fingers crossed. Gotta get packing as rain is on the way.

I've worried about this a couple of times since I got my Greyhawk. They
don't work very smoothly. My bro-in-law is a locksmith and I'm going to
have him replace all the locks.

There's only one for the whole industry. Everybody uses a "751" key for
the storage compartments. You can open up anything in the park with one.

You've lost a lot of storage with the Greyhawk, that's for sure. Sounds
like you will be loading the toad.

Are you using a supplemental brake system on the Tahoe? I read about
your test drive and being able to tell a big difference between towing
with the Ambassador and the Greyhawk.

Go careful and have a safe trip.

Take care,
Greg

Thanks for the info on the whole world using 751. Went to Home Hardware - no blanks that match. Told her it surprises me since I was told there are supposed to be hundreds of thousands of MHs and trailers with the same key. She said "then go up to Pleasantview Trailer and see if they have any." I did and they did. They were short shipped recently so he could only spare one - with 751 of course. I'm going to go to another dealer in FLA and get another one. Might even ask at CW at the TN/GA border.

If you do get the locks changed please let us know the type of lock you use. BTW - can your B-I-L just rekey the locks?

Now for the tough part. Red faced again. Have packed everything with a surprising amount of room to spare. Golf clubs and cart are in the Tahoe though but it appears that with a bit of effort we could have had them in the Greyhawk.

It is raining hard here now and the forecast for tomorrow indicates we could have a lot of rain between here and our first nigh at Wapakoneta. The enjoyment of the trip will depend on how long it takes to get across the border. Sure hope it isn't another one hour ordeal.

Good deal. I had one taped to the inside of three of my compartments
when I picked up my unit. Naturally they used regular masking tape so
there was sticky residue over everything.

CW may have them. It's the universal cheap lock for RV's.

I talked to Jay today and he said it all depends on whether the lever on
the back is bolted to the back of the lock or riveted. I'll have to get
over to storage and check. If it's bolted on, they can be re-keyed, but
if they're riveted then he'll have to order new sets for all the doors.
If that's the case he'll measure the levers to match them up. I should
know something tomorrow afternoon.

Wow, great news. That's a lot of stuff to go away for that long and get
it all in. There is a surprising amount of space in the Greyhawk though
with the area under the bed, etc. Do you have the overhead bunk or the
entertainment center? Kathy decided she wanted the bunk for the extra
storage should we ever need it. That and the fact I sometimes snore
enough to drive her nuts - it gives me a place to sleep :-)

Lot's of rain here for the first time in over 45 days so we're not
complaining. It's streaming up from FL and supposed to let up tomorrow.

Just don't mention you finance the winter by packing the coach with
illegals and drugs ;-) Where in FL will you spend the winter? If you're
passing thru the Raleigh, NC area and need anything, give me a call

Hope the locks can rekeyed - just went out and looked and found they ARE bolted to the compartment door. I guess it is just a matter of taking them off, having the locksmith rekey all they same and then putting them back in. Would be nice to have a key not shared by 4,000,000 other people.

We go to Palmetto, FL. Own a lot in Tree Lakes and last year bought the one year old PM on the lot next door. We are really looking forward to getting down and relaxing. We had our home up for sale since July, had a buyer who unfortunately could not sell his as the market here has followed yours - really quiet now. Tired of rushing around and getting it ready for viewings (had a lot of them but just not enough buying at the $500k range). DW figures she cleaned the ktichen floor enough in three months to last 10 years.

OH, missed an earlier question - we do have a Brake Buddy and when setting up today I decided to increase the sensitivity as I don't want any problems coming down from 2247 ft in N. Tenn on I-75 approaching Knoxville. We talked about it again today and hope it will seem different tomorrow but that 950 lb ft of torque sure seems to be different than 440 even with another 14000 lbs. I guess the thing that is difficult to judge is the noise. When it is 40 ft behind, you just don't here much. When it is right in front of you - ouch.

Well, out to get a pizza now to make it easy on DW.

Don

Some photos of our first year at TL with the Journey and second year with the Ambassador. Third year was Ambassador and the PM you can see next door.

I can put in a good word for you at the border. LOL.
751 keys are also used on pickup caps. They are very popular. Our
Endura came with 2 keys for every lock. I wonder where Jayco has all
the extra keys stored.
Have a safe trip. We traveled down I-75 to Cincinnati last Sunday.
There was a 1/2 hour backup at Dayton. If its raining they may not be
working on the road. After that it was clear. We headed off to
Louisville from there. Beautiful weather here in East TX.

They key is how the little arm on the back is attached to the lock. If
it has a bolt thru it or a nut holding the arm on to the barrel of the
lock assembly, then it can be rekeyed. If it's riveted on then we're out
of luck.

Yup and since my coach lives in a storage place, anyone there can open
mine along with theirs. Even if I have to replace all the locks I'll do it.

Oh no doubt! I hate having one on the market and being ready to go out
the door at any given moment. My wife's hobby is shopping for the next
house so I go thru it every few years. The one we're in now was built to
be our retirement house, but I don't believe it. We've been here for two
years though so I've got a couple more before she gets edgy.

I figured since you were hauling that kind of weight you probably had
one. You sure don't need 6000 lbs pushing you.

It's hard to match that kind of power with a much smaller and less
torquey gas engine.

Yeah when that 8.1 ltr engine kicks down a couple of gears it
sounds like a lot should be happening. The other day my wife said, "it's
all talk and no action...just a lot of noise"

Looks like a nice spot. We spent last Christmas at the Great Outdoors
over near Titusville and really enjoyed it. The site we rented just came
up for sale, but since I just bought the motorhome I can't do anything
about it right now :-(

Greg, our youngest son Phil is 33 and he has Down Syndrome. He loves the school he goes to but also loves Tree Lakes. Every Monday night he plays bingo for over 2 hours. Friday at 6 is square dancing and then from 7 to 9 is line dancing (he and DW go - I have 2 left feet). Saturday is pancake/sausage breakfast, Saturday afternoon is bowling in the park league, Sunday is Ice Cream social with entertainment every second week, he has turned out to be a great bocci player, loves bean bag, not bad a shuffleboard as well. Tuesday mornings is Koffee Klatsch. About 300 people turn up for coffee, donuts and briefings by all committees. First year we let him sleep in. The following summer he won a gold and bronze medal in the provincial Special Olympics and they asked him to come to Klatsch wearing them. He hasn't missed a Tuesday morning yet. He just loves the fish fry, omelette breakfast and every other function. Within two weeks of arriving at the park our first year we decided we'd better buy a lot and eventually found one owned by a fellow in California and that is the one the Jayco will sit on. Then bought the PM next door when they wanted something 3x the size a few miles away.

Don

Phil in his brother's wedding party 13 months ago - talk about happiness. He looked so good everyone was in tears. I think he got more attention than the bride and groom. Under those are photos from a train trip we took in 06 and then his 05 Special Olympic photos. This web site is for a chatters group we've been involved with for over 3 years - lots of great people.

Sounds like a good fit for him with all the activities to keep him
engaged. That's great that it works out that way for you.

The Special Olympics is one of the best things anyone ever dreamed up. I
volunteered for the one in Raleigh years ago. There is a lot of hugging
going on with these events :-) When I was getting my teaching degree
back in the dark ages I had to take an adaptive education block and we
worked with various groups ranging from "profoundly affected" to mildly
impaired and I remember them advising us that when it came to the Down
Syndrome kids we had better be prepared to be hugged by some very strong
kids. I grew up with someone with it so I was familiar, but it caught
some young kids off guard.

I tried this link, but it doesn't seem to work. I went to the jatexas
site, but couldn't find it either.

I assume you are well on your way to FL by tonight.

Take care,
Greg
