Jayco Leveler fix...Seneca and Greyhawk

Yahoo Message Number: 291
Thanks for all the replies to my first post. The biggest thing that
I have disliked about the Greyhawk was that every time I cranked the
MH in the driveway the DA.. levelers would dump.

I started doing some research and posted over on RV.net but never got
a good answer. I got several suggestions, but most involved tracing
down a circuit or wire until I found the correct wire. I knew
somebody had figured this out, I just had to find the answer.

First of all....I am not advocating doing away with ANY safety
feature. If anyone does this modification after reading this, YOU
ARE ON YOUR OWN. It worked for me, but I am not telling you to do
it, or that it will work. However........

I got a little help via email from a reliable source that allowed me
to fix this problem. It seems that Jayco, like other companies, put
out service bulletins on an as needed basis. Jayco calls
these "Product Improvement" notices, and they send them to dealers.

Jayco PI number P106-003 (dated May 07 I think) pertains to this very
problem and provides a fix that is suppose to be done via a dealer
and you have to sign a "Confirmation of Removal" form after the fix.

Now, before I go on, remember that this only does away ( on MY
Greyhawk) with the levelers "not dumping" when you go to the the run
or crank position. You still have the "park brake release" and
the "placing in gear" actions that will still dump the levelers to
keep you from driving off with them down. Now, I suppose an IDIOT
could jump in, crank the engine, let off the park brake, throw it in
gear and gas it(all within a couple of seconds) and manage to tear up
the levelers.

The fix: Boy, this is a real tuffy....(grin)

Under the kick panel on the drivers side by your left foot (it is
black plastic on mine) is the usual bunch of wires, fuses, etc you
find in this area on most vehicles.

In among all the stuff you find you will see a black (mine was black)
standard looking 30 AMP relay. I think it only has two wires
attached to it, but I can't remember for sure. Anyway, on
the "number 30" leg (or terminal) of the relay there is a green wire
attached. Pull this green wire off, cut off the female slide
terminal on the end of the green wire and re-install (crimp on) a
round 1/4 inch ring terminal. Just below (in the same area) you will
see a factory GM ground point (screw), clean the area with sand paper
if you want to (mine worked as it was, no sanding) and attach the
green wire. I think the ground point screw is 10mm.

Bingo...you are done and no longer have the levelers dump with the
key on only.

As I said, you are on your own doing this. It worked for me. I
suggest you test everything several times afterwards to make sure
everything still works as you expect it to. My Greyhawk will still
dump the levelers when I release the park brake or put the
transmission in gear.

I do not have my spell check on this computer...sorry if any mistakes
are found.

Mike

I forgot to mention that this PI notice was for units built before
April 26, 2007, or at least that is what I was told. It was for
Seneca units with Power Gear hydraulic levelers. It worked on my
Greyhawk with the same levelers.
