32SS Greyhawk Rear Endcap Separation

Before I bought my 32SS, Don was kind enough to send me photos of his
rear end cap that was separating from the back of the unit so I'd know
what to look for. All was fine when I bought it a couple of months ago,
but low and behold......it's separating now. I haven't talked to Jayco
or the local dealer yet, but here are some shots of what I found. One is
from the inside looking at the corner.

It appears to only be separating from the floor of the coach down and
only on the curb side so far. This is a real disappointment for sure.

    Take care,
    Greg

Yes, I just sent Don an email the other day about that. My 32SS was
made in December of 06. I bought it in April of 07. The separation is
in the same place as yours and Don's. Mine looks just like the
pictures Don sent of his 32SS. I think the factory told him it was
a "butyl tape" they used and sometimes it "oozed" out. I am concerned
also, but have not contacted the factory or dealer. I would love to
know what causes it and how "big" of a problem the fix is. I hope it
is something a "good" dealer can fix. I am a long way from the factory.

A note for Don on the endcap stuff we talked about. Jayco saw my photos
and told me there wasn't a safety or structural issue from what they
could see, but to have the dealer take a look. He looked it over and
mashed on it, seeing that it would go back in place. He called Jayco and
talked to someone there and then returned with some 3 inch stainless
screws. He took out the rubber strip and removed the screws which looked
to be maybe 1 1/4 inches at most and replaced them with the 3 inch
screws. The first one he put in pulled the whole back tight to the
joint. He replaced about a dozen up the back side and then did the same
to the other side even though that side didn't show any signs of
separating. Everything seems tight now, but of course we haven't made a
    trip with it yet.

    Take care,
    Greg

I've just joined this club. Our new (in Dec) 2007 33DS has rear endcap
separation on the bottom on the roadside. Looks about like the pictures
ggimlick posted in Nov except on the other side. Thanks Greg for your
subsequent post of the fix for this problem. I'll print out the fix
description when I take it in to my local Jayco dealer.
