Corner shower faucet mount leaks

I've got a 2007 Jayco Greyhawk Kodiak 32SS, but I assume most units with
a corner shower are assembled the same way so I'm going to pass this tip on.

I noticed water under the cabinets in the kitchen that was running down
from the shower area. As I dried things out and looked for leaks I
didn't find any lines leaking so I had my wife spray some water on the
fiberglass mount in the shower where they fasten the faucet. This
fiberglass mount is attached to the side of the shower with putty tape
and four screws, then the faucet it mounted to that.

The putty tape doesn't seal it off well enough to prevent leaks around
the joint. At least on my Jayco it didn't. I pulled it off gently after
removing the screws and applied a large bead of silicone caulking around
the mount before reattaching it to the wall. Clean up what squeezes out
and let it dry. I wondered about this joint when I first bought it and
used it, but I didn't check it out more closely soon enough. It's new
and only been used a few times so no damage done yet, but it pays to
look closely and check out suspicious looking joints.

Now I need to fasten the low point drain lines up that come from the
kitchen and over the propane tank. They just hang down and rest on the
frame of the tank mount with no fasteners at all. This also lets the
corner where the make the bend to cross the unit lower than the actual
valves on the other side so water doesn't completely drain from them.
Shoddy quality control on Jayco's part. I'll post a photo when I get it
fixed of before and after.

Take care,
Greg

Well, if you think that caused the link, that is interesting. In a post on Nov 13 I stated:

I missed that post somehow or at least didn't pick up on the leak area.

wonder about the sealant around them though but didn't think they'd let
the amount of water through that we found. I did carefully repack the
putty. Seems like we are both going to have the same problems.

Sure seems like we're traveling down the same road, complete with endcap
separation. I dried everything under the fridge and all the way up to
where it was running out from under the step. When it was dry I ran my
arm up under the shower and had Kathy put water around the drain, No
problem there. When she put some water around that fiberglass mount for
the faucet the water instantly came down. It was running down the wall
of the shower, but it was also dripping straight down from the mount
without hitting anything on the way so I know it was from that. When I
had the mount off the wall I also found the knurled fittings on the back
of the faucets were very loose as if they hadn't been tightened.

I really would prefer Jayco to check these things before they send them
out for field testing by us :-) Since I had all the drawers and access
covers out under the cabinets I vacuumed up all the construction debris
they left along with the dropped screws. I like the Jayco product and
this is my second Jayco, but this sort of thing was present on my other
one too. I guess all brands have similar stuff unless you get into the
half million dollar stuff. They may have it too, who knows.

Take care,
Greg
