Ford Escape

Is anyone in the group towing a Ford Escape.

Three weeks ago we traded two bow ties for 2 blue ovals.

Since then I've read a lot about Escape transmission problems.

On Thursday our dealer will be lowering the transmission fluid to a special range that Ford has put on the dipstick for flat towing.

They also put another baffle in to help handle the heat - last Feb.

I'm curious if anyone has an Escape (excluding the Hybrid) that they are towing and what their experience has been with the transmission.

Thanks

Don

Starting 2009 with the 6 speed it is towable and there are clear instructions in the manual. I think Ford would probably not do it again but now it is a face saver.

The transmission is one of the family designed by Ford and GM in a joint development project that cost $1.4 billion (hard to imagine). This family is used in virtually all Fords and GM products now. It appears only the Escape has had problems.

Ours is 4WD (actually AWD - why they use 4WD I don't know) and you cannot tow it on a dolly under any circumstances (made very clear in the manual - either 4 wheels down or ALL wheels up).
