Air for tires....again

Yahoo Message Number: 5921
I thought I kept some of this info, but of course now can't find it. I
know a year ago we talked about compressors. I've got one at home that
works, but would like one for on the road use. Anyone have any
experience with one of these?

I'm open for suggestions for what you guys are using on the road to keep
the big tires up to pressure.

Take care,
Greg

If you want a good 12 volt compressor look at Viair.

I purchased a cheaper one off Amazon. It worked good until it stopped running the rally. Got a new one of the same model. Because I am 2 cheap to buy the Viair.

Don has one from Sears that runs on 120 volts AC. It works good.

I think I may be too cheap for them too :-) Nice stuff though.

Thanks, that's the one I'll take a look at I think. I'd like a 120v version.....I think. I've got a Dewalt version right now but it's too
big and heavy for the motorhome storage bay and it's got a ring problem right now that I need to replace.

Take care,
Greg

I have a 120 volt as well. Husky. Got it from Home Depot about 6 years ago. Works well.

You may find, as I did, that many of these "other" companies are actually owned by Campbell Hausfeld.

That is the same one that I have. I'm able to inflate my tires to the max if I had to.

Ah, they've added wheels to it. Looks to have same specs as mine.

One of these days I'm going to assemble a bundle for sale - Husky compressor (only need 80 psi now), 50 amp TRC Surge Protector (we now only have 30 amps), 95 psi Crossfires (never even installed), and a 30 ft 50 amp extension cord.

Wow, nice price. The fact it fits in a basement compartment is a big
plus. My DeWalt will fit in one of them, but it's also heavy....and
broken right now.

Are you guys finding that the little Sears model and the Husky provide
enough volume for the motorhome tires okay?

Take care,
Greg

Yes, my Husky did the job well on the tires on my Journey, Ambassador and Greyhawk.

I have a Husky also in the forward basement compartment that I have found to be a very handy tool. Besides topping off tires it is great for cleaning out dusty storage and engine compartments, etc. I also added a Reelcraft 50' hose reel that stows and extends the air hose easily, and the compressor is powered by the Xantrex Inverter when Shore Power is unavailable.

heres a picture when it was in our 2007 33ss, basically the same now in our 36fk except the compartment is behind the driver.

we have a 25' reel. i like the sears model opposed to others because of the 3 gal tank and the fact (call me old fashioned) you actuall add oil to this one.

Nice, I'd love to have it set up that way. I think your storage bays are a bit higher than the ones on the gasser 32SS, but I've got one I think it would fit in. I may have to reinforce the bottom of the plastic compartment. A couple of them sag pretty good :-(

Having just rebuilt my oiless Dewalt compressor, I would agree. I don't want another oiless version if I can find a small one that will keep up with the tire filling.

Which model Sears compressor is that?

Greg

I bit the bullet and went over to my little Sears catalog store near the
house and they had several of these in stock. It's a good looking little
machine and actually puts out more cfm at 90psi than my Dewalt did in
spite of the Dewalt being a 150 psi compressor.

I rebuilt the Dewalt and it seems to be working fine, but I like the
idea of the oiled unit and it will fit in one of my compartments where
the dewalt wouldn't. Actually it would fit in one of them, but not where
I wanted to carry it.

My old oil reservoir compressor ran for years and worked well when I
sold it so maybe I won't have to rebuild this one in a year.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Take care,
Greg

After reviewing the Viaircorp.com web site that Ron suggested, I sprange for the 400P-RV automatic portable compressor. It's everything I had hoped it would be; small and powerful. A little spendy but appears to be well worth it.

Tks again for the info.
