Oil change

Speaking of maintenance, to make oil changes a little easier, I've been wondering about getting a quick change valve.

Has anyone in the group used one of these?

If you have, is it worth the $$$. Not very expensive and it appears to me it would make draining the sump much easier and "less dirty."

I have one on my Dmax. Installed during last oil change. Got the model with extension to use a 1/2" hose. I have only put a little over 3000 miles on engine since install with no leaks. Should make changing oil next fall easy with no spills.

I'm delighted to hear that. When I told my son that I might start doing the maintenance, including oil changed, he immediately reminded me that we'd have to get a large enough container to hold the old oil. He has containers for his own vehicles and race cars but none are large enough. This should solve that problem.

The other issue I then realized I'd be facing is getting the MH level. Our drive is sloped and there is no way it can be levelled by deploying the jacks. We are in a cul de sac and it is crowned for drainage so I can't even move it to the street and find a level spot. Son says no problem just back out of the driveway to the point where the front wheels are above the level at the bottom of the driveway and the rear wheels are above that level as they go up the crown - and then we'll even have more room to work under the MH. Ah, I'm sure my neighbours will love that. :)

DW just asked "can't you do the oil change at the storage yard?" That will be an option because we can level it there very easily and it may be level to start with. If it is not contrary to the rules at the storage yard that is where we will do it."

That valve will make sure we don't make a mess. Where did you get the valve?

I got mine from here, http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/front/index.aspx?p=Home .
Level should not be a problem. On my Dmax the pan is so deep that all the oil drains to the lowest point.
I got a drain pan from Wal-Mart. They have 2 models one will hold over 5 gallons. I do not like to fill it full because it is to heavy to pour into empty oil bottles. I use the 2.5 gallon bottles of oil from Sam's Club. Rottella T.
