Fire in my Greyhawk 33DS

Yahoo Message Number: 1057
DW went over to the MH yesterday to turn on the refridgerator, heard
funny noises and smoke started coming out of the sides of the fridge,
then a small explosion and flames shooting up the outside of the
motorhome. DW called 911 and with the help of a neighbor was able to
get the fire partially contained with a water hose before the fire
department arrived. The fridge is in the slide that was extended so
all damage is contained in the slide and no smoke damage internally.

To make a long story short the fire dept thinks it was a faulty gas
regulator in the fridge. We are now waiting for the claim adjuster.
The MH is still under first year warrantee so I need to notify the
dealer. Going to be along process I'm afraid and am thinking the
slide is going to need to be replaced. I have taken pictures in case
legal issues develope.

Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

I posted a response on RV.Net before I read your post here. When you
get your pictures taken please upload them to the photos section of
this board.

I added some photos this morning

Doug & JoAnn,

Wow... again!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you fight your
way through the process of recovering your motorhome and your sanity.
Hopefully having all of us sympathizers out here on the forums will
help you get through this. There are a lot of smart & experienced folks
to draw upon so you don't need to feel it's just you two against the
insurance company and Jayco. I agree with the RV.Net post discussing
the concerns of dimimished value when resolving a final settlement.

Best of luck and keep us all in the loop & thanks for the pictures.

Bill

Glad you are both safe. Keeps us all mindful of safety and emergency
escape procedures if we needed to get out of our rigs quickly. Do not
know what model or year refrigerator you have, but we did see this
recall notice from Dometic:

"Dometic has reported a safety related defect covering 745,574
two-door refrigerators manufactured between June 1, 2003 and September
30,2006, with Serial Numbers that begin with 320 through 352; 401
through 452; 501 through 552; and 601 through 639, installed in
certain recreational vehicles as original equipment and sold as
replacement equipment. A fatigue crack may develop in the boiler tube
which may release a sufficient amount of pressurized coolant solution
into an area where an ignition source (gas flame) is present. The
release of coolant under certain conditions could ignite and result in
a fire. The vehicle manufacturers will notify owners of recreational
vehicles that had the refrigerators installed as original equipment
and Dometic will notify owners of the aftermarket refrigerators.
Dometic will install a secondary burner housing free of charge. Owners
may contact Dometic at 888-446-5157. 08E-032"

I too own the Greyhawk 33DS; I do not know what to say that others have
not already said. My wife and I are glad that you and your family are
safe. We too pray that all will be made right quickly and your unit will
be made whole and safe again, better than it was before.

Our thoughts are with you
