Off to Jayco Middlebury tomorrow

Couldn't have picked worse weather for this time of the year - below
freezing.

They are now going to take our 32SS to the paint factory in Topeka for
the paint work - which should take them all of an hour so so - if
that. They are paying for a hotel or motel for us on Monday night
apparently so we won't have to worry about 29 degrees. They want the
paint to dry indoors. No one else is booked for service Monday so
Sunday we should be able to get the one good spot that has 30 amp
power so we can run some heaters - supposed to be down at or below
freezing.

Tuesday they will do the exhaust hanger and the front slide wiring.

DW, when starting her packing on Thursday (we go on to Florida after
this service visit) found that the bottom of the compartment under the
bed was separating from the front section of the slide unit and is now
open to the floor. Jayco said that would be fixed on Tuesday as well.

I mentioned to the Service Manager that I'd like to chat with him
about a few issues that surprised me when we were at the factory in
April. I plan to raise the issue of filling the openings for power
lines and water lines. Although Tammy Baker (no longer with them) may
think not filling such openings isn't a big deal, I wonder what their
legal counsel would have to say given the risk from exhaust fumes -
especially the generator. The other item is "openings" to allow a
phone connection and tv cable connection to the back roadside
compartment and power connection in a curb side forward compartment
where an outlet is located, without having to leave the basement
doors open and unlocked. Hopefully they will put in two of them - but
I'm not counting on it.

When they complete these items on Tuesday they will then determine if
the power train whine is gone. The hope is that it is exhaust
resonance I'm hearing - but I kind of doubt it. If they feel it is a
drive train problem then it will go to Mor/Ryde on Wednesday to have
the drive train examined. The stock drive train that came with the
213 inch wheelbase models has two sections. When they extend it to
225 (why they didn't just order the 224 from GM is beyond me) it ends
up as a 3 section drive line. If they think the noise is "standard"
then we get away Wednesday morning - or maybe even by early afternoon
Tuesday.

Should have WiFi by Thursday at latest - but maybe earlier if lucky.
In April we picked up a signal off and on at the service center (no
idea whose it was) that was usable and hopefully that will be the case
this year.

If anyone requests admission to the group I'll authorize the request
as quickly as possible. We've been very lucky so far - no spam at all.

Don as you seem to have a relationship with these guys here is something else for the design team you could maybe mention. It seems to me that the power cord on the super C does not have to be mounted to the outside of the coach. This makes it way too easy for some to steal as copper is worth quite a bit these days. It could just as easily be mounted in one of the storage compartments with a hole in the bottom to get the cord out to the power supply.
I am looking at rerouting mine to the rear drivers side compartment and installing a surge protector. Then I think I`ll hard wire the cord into the protector and put an opening in the bottom of the compartment, (similar to the hose opening in the floor of the plumbing compartment) so I can pull out only as much as I need.
Just a thought for what its worth. Anyhow have a good trip

Hi Don:
We are new members of this group. We have a Senaca 35GS and we are interested as to the paint work you are having done. We have the upgraded paintjob and find that we have numerous stone chips that seem to happen very easily, just curious as to your problem.

As to the suggestion re the power cord. That would be a great idea as lugging the heavy cord in cold weather is interesting to say the least. Right now we are 6' from the power box but have to pull out all the cord.

Kathy and John,

Sorry, poor description on my part. I agree with your comment but that is not what I was addressing in this case.

On the curb side we have a power outlet in one of the bays and in our other MHs if I wanted to connect a battery minder when the MH was connected to shore power it was easy - run the line out the trap door under the outlet. No outlet on this one so if I want to put the Battery Minder or a battery charger on after sitting for a month or two - it means leaving the basement door open.

As to the problem you mention - I agree. In our previous MH we had a power cord real and only fed out what we needed. Now, the whole works is lying on the ground (that reminds me - it is not to be coiled but stretched out. What I've been doing is using my TRC 50 Surge Protector with the locking hasp. I lock the power cord to the Surge Protector. But that would not stop someone from unplugging the surge protector from the post. So, I run the 50 amp line under the coach and have a vinyl coated steel cable that I wind around the generator cage and the power cord tight enough before locking it that anyone wanting it will have to break the lock to the generator compartment (or lie underneath) and cut the cable - which is a pretty strong one.

So, someone who comes prepared can get it, but someone just trying to grap and run would likely not be prepared for this. I too feel they should have had a connection in a locked compartment - BUT, with 6,476,899 keys numbered 751, I don't know that one would have any more protection.

Don

(still waiting for a jump start - OnStar just called to say he is on the way. I have a feeling I'm going to end up at the GM dealer tomorrow when it doesn't start again in the morning. I'm even afraid to go to a restaurant for fear it won't start when we come out. )

Forgot the paint question (Tahoe now seems to be working OK and all warning lights off - now we hope it will start in the morning as the weather forecast says to expect one inch of SNOW).

The paint on a corner cap on the rear slide peeled off (the fancy paint, that is). So, they have to paint about 4 to 6 sq inches. The cap is plastic and a friend with a Jayco says they arae really difficult to paint. They also have to paint the caulking - about 2 feet on each side to match the fancy brown/gold in the special paint job (which I'm not sure I'd bother with if there is a next time).

When we were here in April trailers were being towed out for delivery across North America all night long. Now, NOTHING. I'm really starting to wonder how many RV manufacturers will be left standing?

-Kathy the paint chips easily but we have the plastic coating on the
front of ours that came with the unit (35GS 08) so we are not having
any issues. Dane

Thanks we have a '07. We know about the plastic coating but have not done anything about it so far as we hear it is expensive.

Thanks for the information.
