Passenger Door Handle inoperative

Yahoo Message Number: 11820
Has anyone had experience with the passenger door handle not opening the door?

I used the key to unlock the door and operated the handle which worked as usual but the door will not open.

It seems that something inside the door has come loose.

Anyone have diagrams of the inside or information how to open it up?

Thanks

Many of us have, it seems to be a "feature" from GM :-) I'm about to do
mine again. The last time, I bought a new door handle and didn't need it
because it was just the screw coming loose. I can't remember all the
details, but here is a conversation from the archives last year that
discussed the same problem. I'm going to be doing mine again and
hopefully will remember how I did it as I go. I know I tore up my arms
on sharp things inside the door as I stuffed my hands in to do things.
It's a pain in the neck, I do remember that. I tried to get photos of
the inside of the door with my phone, but it didn't work.

Read thru this batch of messages and you'll get some idea what you're
looking for:

Good luck,

Ric,

I have the same 06 chassis. No problem so far with 26k on it. I
haven't heard of that problem. It might be assembled wrong. I would
compare it to the other door.

Hello,
I had that problem of the passanger door not opening also. I have
tried to 'fix' it twice, then finally got it to stay fixed.
The screw on the linkage had not completely come off, so that was a
good thing. I notice the last time I was fixing it and screwed the screw
in, just using the handle to open the door made the screw turn
counterclockwise. So every opening loosened the screw just a bit.
All I did was to spray the screw with WD 40. That prevented the
screw from turning and stayed tight.

Anyone else encountered this? If so, how'd you get it to stay together
or did you?

Mine is broken, but I haven't tried to dig in to see what the
problem is. Any tips on getting into it would be helpful.

Take care,
Greg

Hello Ric,

It sounds like the screw has fallen out. That makes it more difficult.
First I would find the screw. It should still be in the door. There is a
plastic rectangle that can be removed to access the bottom of the door
and that is where I put a light to shine up to the linkage

I almost drilled a 1/4" hole at the screw/linkage inside panel height to
aide in the screw tightening, but did not have to.
That might have to be done(hole) to get the screw back into the linkage.
A plastic cap can then be put on the door to cover the hole if it looks bad.
I would take a look at the driver door, so you can see what the linkage
is supposed to look like.

Ric, hope this helps
, Joe

we had the damn thing break internally. You can get the parts and DIY, but be careful how you take the door panel off, it's easy to break the tiny little cheap ass clips. And you get to work blind, which is always fun.
