oil change light reset

Does anyone know if on the 6.6 diesel it has a change oil light that comes on after xx number of miles ??? I had an oil change before trip and as we were coming back
the change oil light came on, read in book said to change oil in no more than 600 miles from light. It has about 5200 miles on it since last oil change and was wondering if
mechanic just forgot to reset for oil change or if there needs to be an oil change....................

Oil change light is reset by following the procedure below. This the procedure from a 2005 owners manual.

The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to a change engine oil light being turned on, reset the system.

To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:

1. Turn the ignition key to RUN with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
3. If the change engine oil light flashes for five seconds, the system is resetting. Turn the key to OFF.

If the change engine oil light comes back on when you start your vehicle, the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

The system is based on a lot more than mileage. It takes into account type of driving, hours of use etc.
