Question about Blue Ox Patriot

Hi

I found a blue ox patriot on Craigslist for sale, I then went to the web site and check the installation and user manual.

One question that is not clear is about the power connection.

It says to plug the device on the cigarette lighter/or/power outlet, when I tow the jeep (liberty) I put the key on a position that releases the steering wheel but does not turn on the battery or anything inside, that is the beauty of it, I do not need any battery disconnect, and no matter how long is the trip at destination the jeep has the same charge on the battery as it had before the trip.
Now if I connect this thing on the power plug, I will need to turn the key to accessory and power will drain.

Is it really how works?

That is how it works. It is not a constant drain on the 12V, only when the compressor kicks in after the brake is applied. If your toad battery is in good shape, you should not have a problem. I have heard of folks using a small solar charger on the toad, but I never did.
