Battery Maintenance November 03, 2010, 01:52:10 pm Yahoo Message Number: 5745Battery MaintenanceWell, we had some really hot spots (120°) and some altitude (>10K feet) this summer. So I thought I would do a little battery check and maintenance. First thing I noticed is that there was a stain on the top of the battery. So I pulled the batteries and started by cleaning them up.Batteries one before and one after clean upGood news - the stain turned out to be ATF from my (evidently clumsy) once every two year flush of the PowerGear hydraulic fluid. However bad news is that the front restraining strap buckle had broken, and one of the batteries was tilted in the tray. A trip to ace and I had some thicker / wider webbing and a more sturdy strap buckle.Topped up all the cells and then put the batteries back in.All done!I remain very happy with the "diagonal" connection of the coach batteries. (See my previous post.) The water loss issue is solved. I am getting better battery charge and life. Now if I just went to AGM....Procedure:-1) Remove wedding ring and watch0) Put on safety glasses / gloves1) Lay out plastic to rest batteries on2) Hit coach battery disconnect (Off) - verify dc lights off3) Disconnect Negative Lead4) Disconnect Positive leads5) Remove batteries and clean6) Open ports and clean edges7) Add water to cells as needed8) Replace batteries and strap down9) Reconnect positive leads and tighten10) Double check polarity11) Reconnect negative leads and tighten12) Triple check polarity and connection13) Hit coach battery disconnect switch (On)14) Verify DC lights operate and check charge wizard15) Remember to put wedding ring back on!Kevin (Real) McCoy [KF5FUZ / WQJE447]("Roscoe Ventura" Jayco Seneca HD SS 34 Diesel 2006; "Toad" Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2007) Quote Selected
