Back On The Road...! December 27, 2008, 07:04:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2070We're heading out on the road tomorrow morning. Boy it sure does feelgood being able to say that! Various family and/or health issues (manyof which others on this forum are quite familiar with) have kept ushome-bound for 12 months now. This will likely be a fairly short trip(to Central Fla) but here's hoping it will be the first of many morein the coming year. Here's hoping you all have a wonderful New Year!Bill Quote Selected

With the price of gas so nice now I'm trying to get the message to DW that we'd better start planning some nice trips. We've just had some terrible weather since we returned for Xmas. Had a lot of snow and today it was 52 and it is disappearing quickly. We head back to FLA next Sat/Sunday. Will be nice to get back, but I have to say our granddaughter has sure made up for the bad weather.DonOn 27-Dec-08, at 7:03 PM, berfle624 wrote: Quote Selected

We just spent a few days at the Great Outdoors on site 53Sunset and it was spectacular. We're still on the road and will be home tomorrow, but we've coveredsome ground we didn't expect to.We went to the Great Outdoors...Key West....Grassy Key....Naples....LazyDays.....Silver Springs and will be leaving Savannah tomorrow for NC.The rig is finally completely debugged as far as I can tell andeverything has been picture perfect with our 32SS Jayco. we've put10,000 miles on it in just over a year and are really happy with the wayeverything has settled out.So....why were we at Lazy Days? DW really thinks she wants to go back toa towable to have the bigger living room, king bed, and kitchen. Shereally misses the room and that means I'll probably be putting this onthe market sometime after we get home and begin the process of goingthat route. There are a couple of 5th wheels she really has fallen inlove with and we know how that will go :-)Take care, Greg Quote Selected
Re: Back On The Road...! Reply #5 – January 02, 2009, 08:19:17 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2086OUCH. Pity now that it is debugged. We did that with our Ambassador - debugged and then swapped for the Greyhawk - or is it Grayhawk. I can never remember. There may come a time when DW saws she wants us to go smaller yet (Sprinter based unit). My answer is going to be simply. "Dear, if we switch now you have to be prepared to do your share of the driving." That should end the discussion quickly.Glad it ran well. That means the next owner will be happy.DonOn 2-Jan-09, at 8:06 PM, Greg Gimlick wrote: Quote Selected

That means the next owner will be happy. After the initial sealing of the wire access holes, and bad a/cthermostat on the trip last summer it's been smooth sailing. I couldn'tbe happier with a unit now. The new exhaust hanger does have a bit of awhistle to it, but not one you notice from inside the coach. If I'moutside I can put my foot against the pipe and the sound goes away so Iknow it's a metal to metal vibration sounds.I haven't given up on convincing her to stay with this 32SS, but I'mguessing it's futile in the long run. I have no idea what it's going tobe like trying to sell a motorhome right now in this economy. Of coursethe guys at Lazy Days are happy to take it as a trade, but then you'relooking at paying MSRP on whatever you buy and I just can't live withthat. I'm not even sure how I'll go about trying to sell it yet. Mighttry eBay or just running an ad on rv.net or something. If I didn't have that hanging over me I would have grabbed a deal on adually I saw the other day that was really great.Take care, Greg Quote Selected

We just spent a few days at the Great Outdoors on site 53 Sunset and it was spectacular.Good to hear you had a wonderful trip! We are just up the road fromwhere you were on Sunset at site 8. Great location that's convenient toeverything and room to walk the dogs (priorities you know...).Sounds like you tagged a lot of bases in Fla. on the way to your 10Kmile mark. Did you stay at a campground in Key West or further up in theKeys? If things go well here we plan to get over to Lazy Days for a day tripduring the RV Supershow. Quite an operation they have there for sure! Webought our 2nd motorhome from them back in 1993 when they were at theold location. They've sure come a long way.By the way I read recently that Lazy Days was amidst serious financialproblems and I believe the next critical date from their lenders wasaround mid January. Perhaps some even better deals can be had thesedays.Glad your trip was a good one Greg and good luck with your RV tradingdilemma.Bill Quote Selected

I may still have another 100 miles to go. I'm going to get thegen serviced in a week or so and that may be the trip that turnsit...how anti-climatic :-)QuoteDid you stay at a campground in Key West or further up in theKeys? We checked into Boyds right at Key West, but they were full and so wasthe next one up the island....can't remember the name. They are also WAYexpensive at about $130 a night. We ended up staying on the Naval AirStation since I am retired military, but couldn't get a full hookupsite. We were in overflow which wasn't bad really except we were drycamping. You could run the gen from 7 am til 11 pm if you needed to andwe did have to run for some a/c a few times, but not all day. Thebiggest problem with a situation like this is many do run them all thetime and while noise really wasn't an issue, the fumes were. A couple oftimes the winds were so we got the fumes from everyone else in the"park" There were probably 100 rigs there. All that being said....I can say I've seen Key West and while it's areally interesting place, it's WAY to packed at Christmas. With cruiseships unloading every day it was like walking the mall at Christmas. Thehistorical stuff is really nice, but I've aged beyond wanting to drinkmy way thru a city and that town is geared towards partying :-)We stayed at a park about 60 miles up the Keys at Grassy Key that wereally would have liked to stayed at longer, but they had a waterfrontspot for one night and we had a schedule too. I'll try to get somephotos up to show the places. We got back last night so it's a full daysjob getting back to normal here and then the motorhome over to storage.Naturally it's cold and rainy today.QuoteIf things go well here we plan to get over to Lazy Days for a day tripduring the RV Supershow. Quite an operation they have there for sure!I've never seen anything like it. They comp'd us a night in the rallypark since we were seriously trying to make something work on a 5thwheel and truck they had, but in the end I couldn't bring myself to pullthe trigger knowing I was going to lose as much as I was.QuoteBy the way I read recently that Lazy Days was amidst serious financialproblems and I believe the next critical date from their lenders wasaround mid January.Interesting, maybe that's why they were pushing so hard :-) I shouldn'tsay pushing I guess because they really aren't high pressure, but youcan't leave either without a manager really trying to "make it work".Once you convince them No is No, you're done in a hurry :-)QuoteGlad your trip was a good one Greg and good luck with your RV tradingdilemma. We had a great time and really hated to come home yesterday, butreality doesn't wait It was good to have everything go as plannedand enjoy all the places we stopped. Fuel costs were soooooo much betterthan our trip to Denver and points west last summer. The lowest I paidfor gas was $1.45 in SC and the most was $1.99 in Key West. Last summerI averaged $3.74 on the trip out west.Take care, Greg Quote Selected

Will look forward to any pics you might have. Holy Smokes on that $130/night camping! I guess if folks will pay it... but wow just the same. The dry camping stint sounds much more reasonable, fumes and all.QuoteRe: Lazy Days... I've never seen anything like it. Probably like trying to describe Disney to someone who has never seen it. It's an incredible operation and a real playground for RV junkies. I sincerely hope they are able to pull through this current downturn.QuoteFuel costs were soooooo much better...Certainly helps put some of the fun back into Rv'ing!Bill Quote Selected

One of the interesting thingsabout Lazy Days is their cabinet shop. The front closet in this unitdoesn't have a tall hanging spot for DW's dresses and they had a guycome out to look at it. For $250 they'll take it in and rebuilt one sidematching all the wood so it looks like the other closet side, but thiswould have the tall hanging spot.Very heavy unit once you add all the options though, coming in at 14Kand a pin weight of about 3500 lbs. Definitely dually material. They hada gorgeous dually someone had traded in with their 5er on a motohomethat I probably should have bought, but just couldn't pull the triggerthis trip. Still gotta get over losing so much money in the long run.The other problem is this puts me back to driving my tow vehicleeveryday. Lot's to consider.Interesting read on the Lazy Days situation you posted, thanks for that.Take care, Greg Quote Selected
