Seneca floor issue

Yahoo Message Number: 12580
We have had a lot of sub zero temp's here in northern Indiana this winter. One morning my outdoor thermometer showed -18F . I was shocked the other day when I went into my Jayco 2008 Seneca 36 MS and found the kitchen vinyl floor cracked into two pieces. The vinyl floor had separated into two pieces with a 1 " wide crack between the pieces. The reason I was in the Seneca I was taking it to Jayco in Middleburry for some follow up work on a past warranty issue. I showed the service dept the crack and they said they had never seen any of their motorhomes have that problem. They did say some of their travel trailers in Canada that had seen -40F below had had some vinyl floor cracking issues. Jayco wanted $2000 to replace the floor with more vinyl. For now I passed on that thinking I would just up grade to the wood flooring like Ron Hall had put in his motorhome. When I told Jayco service I was going to do that my self they said it would not work. I have the Jayco 2008 36 MS Seneca with the wall slide. On that model they have the wall slide that slides out and drop's down level with the kitchen vinyl floor. Because of this drop down situation, I can't not put in a thicker wood flooring.per Jayco Service Dept.
Has any one else had any vinyl floor cracking issues in there Jayco motorhomes? Also has any one else done any floor up grades on there Jayco Seneca 36 MS wall slide model? I know I can just put down more vinyl my self but will the future give us more of the Polar Vortex and extreme sub zero temps here in Indiana and another cracked floor?? Not sure what the answer is for me right now. Suggestions?

I do not see why you cannot do the same floor upgrade that I did. Just need some slicker put down when you bring slide. Over on irv2.com there is a guy that does flooring work in TX. Ask his opinion. Here is a link to one of that he has replied to. Erine Ekberg.

If you have the carpet flap you should have no problem installing Home Depot Allure or similar flooring. Just make sure flooring remains floating.

My friends with 5th whl had some vinyl install by a local guy in Metro Detroit. It turned out nice. And did not cost much. But I do not have their address with me.

My Seneca 37fs has the large slide which drops down after extension. I not sure if this is the same type of drop as the 36ms, but I have the wood laminate flooring installed by Jayco. The slide area is carpeted, so I assume the flooring does not extend far enough into the slide operating area to impinge on the movement, but the carpet flap covers this area. I do not see why the same philosophy would not work on the 36 ms.

When my wall slide is extended the carpet in the slide out is exactly the same height as the vinyl floor in the kitchen from where the wall slide slide out. So as the slide comes in it can not raise over any flooring thicker than the current vinyl floor per Jayco service.

Hi Ron,
Yes I have a carpet flap from the room slide out carpeting. My Seneca is still at Jayco waiting for some nicer weather so I can get it home, 8" more snow tonight here in Fort Wayne. When I get it home I am going to first look under the carpet flap at the clearance between the wall slide and the kitchen vinyl floor,I have never done that - I never needed too. I do know from watching outside when the slide moves in, the first movement is the slide as it retracts raises at the entrance to the motorhome. At the same time the outer side of the wall slide tips down. All this is to allow the wall slide to raise to go over the top of the kitchen vinyl floor because they are flush with each other when the slide is fully extended.
If it looks possible I would love to have the Allure flooring like you have Ron, you did a beautiful job installing it!!
Thanks for everyones input!
